Use of deadly force to prevent arson

From the Galveston County Daily News, this date:
LA MARQUE — Police were piecing together reports Tuesday of a man who was shot by a business owner, authorities said.

The man’s injuries weren’t life-threatening, but he was accused of approaching a business overnight in the 3000 block of Cedar Street and pouring gasoline on the ground, said Capt. Donnie Head of La Marque police.

The owner, who was sleeping in the metal building, awoke, and gunfire was exchanged, Head said. The owner wasn’t injured, but police found the man on state Highway 96 between League City and Kemah about 4:45 a.m. suffering from a shotgun wound.

A medical helicopter took the man to a Houston hospital, where La Marque police were interviewing him Tuesday afternoon.

No more information was available Tuesday.

Reading between the lines, it seems that this could have been an ongoing dispute that caused the business owner to sleep in his business with a shotgun ready.

The location is not the most delightful corner of the Garden of Eden.

The guy with the gas can must have been expecting trouble if he was packing too.

Sounds like, and further proof that carrying doesn't make a person bulletproof.
