NEW GUY CHECKING IN

#1

Post by Roscoe »

Saw this forum and thought it was a good place for me to hang out. I'm currently assigned in Central Iraq working for Uncle Sam - a civilian, been a long time since I took off my Army uniform. The missus is currently in The Woodlands, I get home every three months for three weeks r&r. Retiring next summer and we're planning on moving to somewhere in the Gatesville/Brownwood area - plans could change if we find another place we fall in love with more. Held a CCL from 2001-2006, but it expired while I was assigned in South America. Was home in July and reapplied. Figure I should have it before I retire.

I thought it was hot in Houston until I came over here for the first time. This place is scalding hot pretty much all year, with maybe a month of cool weather. Right now most days we top 125 degrees. We're right on the Euphrates River, but not much humidity. We make up for that with sandstorms, and they are a sight to behold.

Appreciate you allowing me to stop in. Looks like a great site. If you guys were here tonight I'd buy you a beer - sadly, no Shiner available in this sinful part of the world!!

Hi Roscoe and welcome to the forum! Glad you found us and have you here! :tiphat: There's a wealth of information here and a great bunch of men and women to get to know.

Thanks for your account of weather conditions over yonder. I think I'll stick to the milder 103 temps here, thank you very much!

I'm a little familiar with Brownwood, as I spent a few years in Abilene going to school and playing DJ for a local radio station . Brownwood is a little prettier IMO.

Be safe over there, and safe journey coming home. And check in often! And send more stories if you feel like it! :patriot: :txflag:

Brownwood is a good area. Graduated H.S. there many years ago. Still have family there and go visit whenever I can.
