Sources for Crimson Trace for Sig P238

I've done a "Bing.com" search and found several sources for the laser that fits the P238. The high from around $219 from Crimson Trace to several retailers on the net from about $165 and up. Most places like Academy or Amazon.com sell them for about $189. I've read were some folks have returned their units because of battery usage issues, so would hate to go to a source that sells "reconditioned" units. Are there any recommendations as to a good source for the purchase of this particular lazer? Thanks so much.

Make sure a laser is what you really, really want.
Have you used one before, in target practice, CQB range, etc?

I'm only saying this because I had Kimbers with CT lasers and I found them to be cool at first and then annoying during target practice.
I thought it would be a good training tool at the range, but that was not born out by the experience I had.

I found that unless you have an absolute steady hand, that dot just flits around like a grasshopper on speed. And the further you are from your target, the jumpiness is exponentially magnified. It just wasn't right for me.

They're cool to have (at first) and if you get one I hope its a good thing for you. For me, the reality killed the thrill pretty fast.

On their web site, Crimson Trace sell them for $170 with free shipping. I paid $165 last year for mine + tax from the Crimson dealer at a local DFW gun show. I think the price from CT is the best you'll find. here's the page:

BTW, I have had no battery issues with mine on the P238, nor with any other CT laser. Also, if your laser is properly bore sighted, you sill not see it when you use your iron sights. It will be masked by the front sight. I use the iron sights, but the laser is there if needed if it is not possible, due to your body position, to obtain a good iron sight picture. Lasers, like anything else, are a matter of taste. Some love them, some don't. I practice with both the iron sights and the laser.

I have a Crimson Trace for my Ruger LCP that I got off of eBay. I've had no problems with it (battery or otherwise).

Looks like the Sig laser gives the option of on/off via a button on the side, while the CTC is automatically activated when the gun is gripped. Some like the option of being able to activate the laser or not so they don't give away their position, while others like the fact they don't have to think about it. A matter of personal choice it seems.

I've had my Kimber with the Crimson Trace for over three years and have the same batteries it came with and they are still going strong.

LabRat is correct about the dot jumping all over the place at the range; mine has an on/off switch and I just turn it off when I'm target shooting.

I don't know anything about the CT laser for the 238, but I have a definite opinion about the Sig trigger guard laser.

The one I have is junk. Just sitting in the living room (unloaded pistol), I could tell that it did not maintain a constant point of aim. The plastic body halves do not give a secure and immobile grip on the trigger guard. I could use the sights to verify that the point of aim would change, every time I turned the laser on.

I wouldn't waste money on it (again).
