question
I may be over thinking this, not sure. Im in the military, origionally from va. My father gave me guns while i lived in va. I joined the military now stationed in texas about to ets. Is a ffl transfer required or can i just go pick them up? Its basically like i am just moving to texas since thats where i plan to stay. I already have a texas chl.

Re: question
When I moved from California to Texas, I brought those guns I owned with me. No FFL transfer or anything like that is necessary because they weren't changing ownership........and in Texas, even a private sale to someone wouldn't have required an FFL anyway. All that's happening is that you're changing address. If you moved but stayed within the state of VA, you still would not require an FFL transfer because you're not transferring the ownership.....only changing your address. Same if you move to Texas.dpleban wrote:I may be over thinking this, not sure. Im in the military, origionally from va. My father gave me guns while i lived in va. I have no idea how your being in the military might affect that, but I am absolutely certain that, as a civilian, it wouldn't matter. Now, if you're moving to Commiefornia or Massachusetts, then it becomes an issue whether or not you are permitted to even own certain types of weapons within those states, but even then there is no federal requirement to "transfer them to yourself" via an FFL.

Ok, thats what i thought. Like i said, i was thinking too much into it lol. Thanks for the clearification
Re: question
The only thing you have to worry about when moving to another state is to abide by their laws on gun ownership and what you own that you can legally bring into the state. A good example is California. If you had large capacity magazines you could not bring them into the state when you moved there. For Texas, the rule is you MUST own guns and have several of them (OK, not really the law, but a good idea IMO).

What??? All this time that was just a suggestion? We must get started on getting that into law.....Keith B wrote:The only thing you have to worry about when moving to another state is to abide by their laws on gun ownership and what you own that you can legally bring into the state.
