Medical advisory board
So how bad is it when it goes to them? I was placed under observation a little over 3 yrs ago and I was diagnosed with depression "Post active duty." Meds were too expensive and I quit going to the Dr. I also quit drinking shortly after and have never felt better.
Re: Medical advisory board
Time line
6-3-15 filled out application
6-5-15 finger prints
6-26-15 Class completed/submitted all docs online
6-29-15 all docs received
7-22-15 letter mailed stating my application has been sent to the medical advisory board.
7-27-15 status still isn't avaliable online. Called and was informed it could take an additional 60 days once I receive the packet from the Medical board and return it.

Re: Medical advisory board
Update,
Aug 9th packet received from med board.
Aug 26 went to my old psychiatrist. He wants me to have a psychological exam, could cost 900-1400$
Waiting to hear if insurance will cove it if not I guess I'll never have a CHL.

Re: Medical advisory board
Hang in there.
Not sure if it will help, but check into Senate Bill 55 that became law June 4th, 2015, ..."creation of a grant program to support community mental health programs for veterans and their families."
We have the law, hopefully the funding is in place. If they're giving grants to these programs - the grantee ought to be seeking Veterans to provide services for.
Check with your State Senator or Rep's offices and see if they can get you a foot in the door.

I can tell you it takes a super long time when apps go threw Medical Advisory Board. Be prepared for a long wait.
Re: Medical advisory board
Still trying to find a doctor that does psychological testing. I found one but its 80+ miles from my home to there, I'll be lucky to get it this year. I emailed them to ask if my file was gonna be kicked back to DPS due to the 60 day deadline. Idk what the difference is. I've bought two guns this year without a problem. Obviously the FBI doesn't have a problem with me owning them, so why does Texas make such a big deal with me carrying one?
Re: Medical advisory board
Well, coming up on 4 months and I've finally managed to get an appointment for a psychological exam tomorrow. Its gonna cost me 225$ and 167miles round trip. Even then there's still no guarantee I will get approved to carry. Hope it goes well, if not I've wasted a lot of money and stress for nothing. I will most definitely write our Governor if I'm denied.
Re: Medical advisory board
Best of luck to you. It's a shame that in this time a person can be so stigmatized by trying to get the help that they need. Especially our vets.
In Sig I trust.

Hope everything went well, looks like the exam was a few weeks ago. Have you received any updates?
Re: Medical advisory board
Well just to let you all know I i recieved a letter in the mail today, i was denied. Even though I had psychological testing and the doctor felt I was capable of exercising judgement. I will appeal the decision and also be writing our Governor.

This is what happens when you get the government involved in anything.

Appealed the decision of my denial, Had my hearing on the 12th of January. The judge sided with me and my evidence that I could clearly exercise sound judgement. Now I have to wait until they process it and print it on plastic!
