Not to get too off topic, but if the OP didn't want to do the class III / tax stamp, would an AR pistol in 300 BLK be anything worth having? I don't know too much about the 300 BLK round, but seem to remember reading/hearing the 300 BLK recoil wasn't that bad.

Not at all - I'm an engineer so I like to go from requirements as opposed to justifying a notion (not that I'm above that when required ;-) ). So I'm looking at as light as possible, small as possible with enough punch to take out a hog ...

Using ball ammo at 25yds, unsupported, 2 hands, not hurrying - taking 12-15 seconds for 9 shots it will nicely put 90% of the shots in a ragged 3" hole and the others were poor trigger control. In my experience (shipping my competition guns for servicing) get the receiver to fax you a copy of his FFL and take that along to UPS. As long as the name and address match even California UPS will take it. They don't like it - but they will take it.
