Carrying a gun onto public school property - in car only

I am new to the forum.

I have often wondered if carrying my gun in my vehicle is legal
while picking up my children at school.

Never leaving my vehicle and If I do never removing the gun from the car
on school property /school parking lot.

Is it legal as long as I do not take into a building?
