CHL Renewal Question

I last renewed my CHL in 2006 - took the renewal classroom training and handgun proficiency shooting test, submitted paperwork (forms, pictures, fingerprints, etc.) and payment, and received my renewed license well in advance of my CHL expiration date.

It's time to start the process again, and it ...

CHL and BATF "instant check" requirement?

If I recall correctly, the BATF will honor a Texas CHL for 4 years (subsequent to the issue date) in lieu of the "instant check telephone call" when buying a handgun from a licensed dealer. The Texas CHLs are now valid for 5 years .

So, does this mean that during the 5th year of the CHL the ...

Handgun Proficiency Score??

Can somebody confirm what I think I know?

The "passing score" for the handgun proficiency portion (shooting) of CHL qualification is 175. Right? Or not?

Thanks.

Cash America still sells guns in Midland, but lately I haven't found anything I wanted.

Gunsmith in League City?

Can anyone recommend a good gunsmith in League City or the close-by surrounding area? My daughter has a Russian Makarov that she "broke". :grumble

Thanks.

Ms. Watson. ;-) Sorry about that.

Jim, thanks for your reply.

Is Tom Estep a "one-stop" shop? That is, everything that needs to be done can be done in his class - notary, finger prints, photos, etc.?

Re: CHL pre-application form still required?

Thanks, Mr. Watson.

My daughter in League City asked about about how to go about getting her CHL, and I had only my first hand experience of 12 years ago to rely on. I'll just tell her to go to the website and follow the instructions.

CHL pre-application form still required?

When I got my CHL back in 1996, there was a "pre-application" form which I completed and sent to the DPS. They did a preliminary "qualifications/background" check, then sent me the actual CHL application package.

Is that "pre-application" form still required, and is it the same as the current on ...

You're in the wrong job!

Nice write-up, JLaw. You should be writing for a gun-rag.

Where do you get those Wranglers with the tag on the left pocket? All of mine have the tag on the right side.

Nice belt, too. ;-)
