I've used the full size 5.11 light on duty for about two years, it serves my purposes perfectly. I retired my SL-20 and the polymer foam version (XP?), I was tired of replacing batteries, switches and lenses.

This is strictly an "admin" light for me, as I don't care for the strobe feature ...

WOW, lots of help, thanks all. I had looked at the DPS FAQ, which made it look like all I needed was the letter from agency, then somewhere else it read as though I needed to go through the entire application process, but wouldn't have to take the class.

SO as I understand, App, prints, and letter ...

Any LEO's on here applied for the CHL? Does anyone know what forms LEO's do or don't need? I didn't quite see anything on the DPS website.

Zero, I'm not calling you out, but some of you're statements seem to indicate I didn't clearly convey my point of view either:

Interior lights ON
Window DOWN
Hands on WHEEL

wait for LEO to make contact, listen to their spiel;

say something along the lines of...Before I reach for anything, I'd like you ...

Plainclothes is a Glock 23 in various holsters (it was issued, so I took it) or the Springer in a Galco Halo (thanks TexasFlash)
Off duty is SW Model 38 Bodyguard ...
