Man dies clearing malfunction at Ft. Worth range
Don't know the details yet, very sad. Happened last night in North Fort Worth at Shoot Smart. Praying for his family.
According to Fort Worth police, the man was on the firing line when he experienced a malfunction with the firearm. While trying to remove live ammunition, the gun discharged, striking him in the head.

He had to have been clearing the malfunction wrongly.

Very sad. Bad things can happen when you don't follow the basic firearms rules. What's even scarier is that good friend of mine that's new to firearms just got a membership there.

It's a well run place. I've been shooting there since they opened maybe 10 years ago.Jose_in_Dallas wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 5:11 pm Very sad. One of the first places in town with private lanes and allow drawing from concealment on the private lanes.
RO's are friendly but firm.
It's absolutely tragic this happened, but I'm grateful it wasn't a bystander that paid the price for this unnecessary, avoidable event.
This worry (other people doing stupid things) is why I usually avoid any ranges without substantial protective dividers between shooters.
Shootsmart is both this...
And this...
Choose wisely.

I have shot at the Alliance Shoot Smart location, but it has been a few years ago. These days with me living in Rockett, TX, the Grand Prairie location is the closest one. I try to hit the range about once a month. It, too, is a well run shooting range.

Re: Man dies clearing malfunction at Ft. Worth range
My friend who has a membership at the Alliance location is inviting me to shoot there on Sunday. He's a very newbie shooter. Enough so that he and his wife took a beginners shooting class at Shoot Smart. Not faulting him and think it was a smart thing to do. He's fully gotten into firearms picking up 3 firearms in the past couple of months. It'll be interesting to see how the experience is there after this recent incident. I normally go to the Grand Prairie location and feel pretty safe there but I also tend to go during "off hours" like on weekdays at lunch time. Sometimes on the weekends, I will see groups shooting AR's and such fairly rapid fire and basically spraying the targets at close range.
