Personal check to pay application fee?

Post by lawrnk »

Now it clearly says on the back on the yellow app, NO PERSONAL CHECKS.
My instructor says they accept them now. Anyone know?

Yep, they do accept them now. If I heard correctly, they add a few days to your wait time because they wait for them to clear and fund before they start processing your application, but they are accepted.

Personal checks have been accepted since 2005. DPS never updated the application to reflect that change.

BE AWARE! A personal check will delay the processing of your application until the check clears the bank.

A returned check will cost you an additional $25, and all future payments to the DPS will have to be made in certified funds.

Well, hearing about the delay I went ahead and sent a post office money order. The wait begins

For first CHL that is the best because they do hold it for clearance.
WE started our renewal in plenty of time so it did not matter.

It did not extend my wait. 41 days to issue.

I paid with personal check and my wait time was only 37 days mailbox to mailbox. This was also my first time applying for a CHL, so I'm pretty happy with their turnaround time right now.
