Tax is in addition to any sales tax that would normally be collected.
Would not be collected if no sales tax is collected during the sale of the item.

Lets set up a $500 poll tax to help fund traffic safety while we are at it...

Why was the firearm industry chosen to fund mental health services? The program is already funded by other taxation.

The lefties no doubt view it as akin to a sin tax.Skooter wrote: Mon Mar 04, 2019 11:53 am Why was the firearm industry chosen to fund mental health services? The program is already funded by other taxation.
I don't want this to happen, but if it does, an interesting dynamic may take hold. People dependent on sin-tax revenue don't want to see the sin diminish.

The author is an Austin liberal. Many legal products are taxed exorbitantly on top of sales taxes such as tobacco and gasoline. Special taxes on soft drinks are now a favorite target of liberals across the country. If taxation on firearms gets started, some liberals could see it as a way to tax the industry out of existence.
I am very much against this bill.

An infringement that fails intermediate scrutiny.
