Great idea! We should run with that and tax voting machines, polling places, voter registration forms, paper ballots, and ... No. 2 pencils and black ink pens to discourage illegal voting.

Following that "logic", adding a 50% tax to cars would work to end illegal street racing. Where do we get these people?

Rather than deal with obvious things that affect violence in the community like mental health, R.I.'s long history of organized crime, or violence on TV... I guess oppressing the serfs is one way of "dealing" with the public. Taxing lawful activities certainly isn't going to lower gun violence, but that probably isn't even be the objective anyway.
