What is your favorite range?

Those of us living in the northern part of Dallas now have one range to go to. That's the Bullet Trap ( a indoor range) where you have to stand almost elbow to elbow & pay $18.50 for a lane.

Well, there is Jacob's Plain http://www.jacobsplain.com/ but that's an extra distance.

What I would like to see is someone buy CCGR and turn it into a private club - different zoning rules - and really torque off those who fought so hard to close it.

in Fort Worth. They have always been friendly and helpful. I took my last CHL renewel there and will do so in the future. You don't have to be a member to shoot. I enjoy shooting indoors with automated ranges that let you send out the target at the distance of your choice.

I always use Red's Indoor Range in Oak Hill. It's convenient to my home, the staff is courteous, and the shooters seem like a responsible bunch. That said, the range is a bit run down and the AC is either blowing cold on the back of my neck or feels inadequate. But the convenience makes up for any shortcomings. With some other Central Texas ranges closing, I hope Red's stays in business a good, long time.

Thats a proper idea right there. Get an sense of what the land would cost, what legal issues may come up during the process, and a good economic model. When you have that, look for investors in the form of member owned, private equity.

Gun ranges can be profitable, but they can also be a royal pain in the rear end.

Reds indoor north and Eagle peak for me.

I guess I had to finally chime in here...

A few ranges I've been to have been mentioned already...And I actually like them all, because in the end I get to shoot...Most of the pain involved with moving and drawing from holsters is in my opinion just a hit and miss issue, although its important to practice that from time to time...

I like Dietz's in New Braunfels...Made a few long range shots I really like there...

PSC is obviously close to me, and the ability to work on all aspects of your shooting is available to you there...

But the range I really like is my own private range 4 1/2 hours away from me...And I can do anything I want (safely of course) and get great results...I'm looking to step off and make a 1000 yard shot one of these days...Thats going to be fun to see how well that works out...

I just can't seem to miss up there for some reason...I always shoot really well there...

Plus it doubles as a driving range with stakes at 50 yard intervals...Convenient huh??? Good thing I don't golf...

I've never had a satisfactory shooting session at Red's. I've been to the Oak Hill location a few times. I always feel rushed due to the $13 hourly fee they charge, the lighting's not very good, and the condition of the range markings leaves something to be desired, and the spotting sights and rifle rests are rickety and in disrepair. I'll agree on the AC as well - either way too cold or stuffy.

I've never been to Eagle Peak, and probably will never go. I refuse to pay 5x as much for SP ammo (I shoot milsurp guns with cheap surplus ball ammo) for the privilege of shooting at their fancy range. From the pictures, it looks like a nice range, but I'd feel cheated in the cost of shooting for the same reason I feel cheated with the time restrictions at Red's.

I do most of my shooting at Dietz in New Braunfels. They've got a friendly staff, reasonable rates ($10 for shooting both rifle and handgun all day), the range is kept up nicely, and they've got carpeted blocks and sandbags. The downside is that it's all the way down in New Braunfels, which means I don't get to go shooting nearly as often as I'd like to.

They have the most reasonable range fees that I can find locally, but they don't allow rapid fire or holster work. I'm looking into going to visit the Cross Timbers IDPA in Ft. work, hopefully next Thursday.

My boyfriend took me to Quail Creek it was the first time I had ever shot a pistol, he taught me how to shoot, I thought it was great, as time went on we both didn't really like how far the targets were out at the pistol range and that you couldn't adjust the yardage, he then found out about The Bullet trap, I love that place in Plano. Always friendly always a lane available and the lighting was good. We tried the DFW gunclub place down on Mockingbird, but I really felt uncomfortable there it didn't feel real safe to me due to the other shooters at the range. We also went to Bass Pro once too and the lighting in there was so bad I couldn't even see my sights.

I like Targetmasters the best. Ive been to the one on Mockingbird DFW Gun Club waited 30 mins for service and not to mention they didnt even ask if I was intersted in looking at a gun. Needless to say ill never go there again. Now Targetmaster the first time I walked in there the staff there was asking if I need any help, look around see if there is a gun you would like to look at, answered all my questions about guns. I talked to one the guys working there for an hour and thirty minuts about different guns and his military background. When I decided to buy a gun from there I put on layway, the day I got it they gave a lane and 50 rounds to try out my new gun. And the guy I had talked to the first day I got there came back there and checked up on me to see how the shooting and my new gun was going. I think Ill stick with Targetmaster for a long while they made a customer the first day i walked in that place.

I live in Edinburg Tx and the Valley Metro Gun range has automatic targetmovers you punch in range and it will move it out to 50 yds.The membership is around 120.00 a year but i'm friends with the employees and they let me take all the brass i need for reloading purposes,you can shoot rifle sitting or standing,they don't want you to draw and fire from a holster but if noone else is on the range they would probably let you,they have no rapid fire signs up but i have let a 30 round clip in my ar-15 go as fast as i could shoot and they do allow select fire weapons on the range,it is an indoor range with 8 stations

We go the Bullet Trap in Plano, its ok,

recently purchased the annual membership, but then found out we have to move back to the UK, so won't benefit from it, does anyone know if you can transfer your membership to anyone else??
