Received CHL in mail yesterday 53 days after putting application packet and money order in the mail to DPS in Austin. I took the class with three other people I knew, and I am the first to receive the card despite being the last to mail forms and payment.
Now, if I can just figure out what the heck to buy for carry. I used a range gun (Glock 19) to qualify the day of class and did great despite never having fired a Glock of any type. I liked the way it felt and shot, but I'd like something with a little more character, although I am going to get a Glock for sure.
How do y'all feel about the lightweight 1911s? Kimber Ultra CDP II is nice but definitely butt-ugly because of the two-tone finish....I like the Springfield Lightweight Champion and Colt Commander, too. Any comments from those of you with more knowledge and experience?

All of the above mentioned are quality carry weapons. I carry a Kimber so am a little partial. The Ultra CDP & Champion are both excellent choices. Colt or any quality make Commander size 1911 is the best carry option I believe. The 4" or 4.25" as the case may be, is more accurate than most can shoot at 25 yds. Very accurate when point & shoot is required.
If you have not shot the Ultra lights or the 3" barrels, I suggest you try to test run them 1st. The recoil is a little snappy for some who have not shot handguns much. They are not the shooter of choice for us old heads either when we are going out for a couple of hundred rds of target practice.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Love them.Afff_667 wrote: How do y'all feel about the lightweight 1911s?
What you talkin' bout, Willis?Kimber Ultra CDP II is nice but definitely butt-ugly because of the two-tone finish....
The Kimbers are the purtiest 1911's sold. I own a Pro CDP and UC II stainless - they are pieces of art - jewels to behold, accurate, reliable.
I have a Springfield GI. Don't own any Colts.I like the Springfield Lightweight Champion and Colt Commander, too. Any comments from those of you with more knowledge and experience?
Buy what you like. I suggest shooting a few 1911's. If you are a sane individual, you will love them too.

The Colt is just too darned heavy to carry comfortably and makes my back hurt. But then, I'm just a girl. You might have a different experience.

Welcome to the board!!
I've got a Kimber Tactical Ultra II - I love that gun. I have only carried it around the house as I'm waiting on the plastic, but I can say that I doubt I will mind carrying it daily. Its lightweight and deadly accurate. I think the recoil is quite managable, but then again I'm 23 and enjoy a challange.
Its also a beautiful gun. That never hurts.
