Totally OT: second-hand stores and NASA

Post by seamusTX »

I like to browse second-hand stores. I've done it for years. I paid less than $5 for most of the clothing that I own.

The junk that they sell at Walmart and Target is high-priced rags, and the places that sell high-quality clothing are costly. I guess in another 10 years all the good stuff will be sold out of second-hand stores and I will have to pay the price of L.L. Bean and Land's End.

Anyway, yesterday I found a souvenir shirt from STS-96 at the Goodwill store in Galveston. STS-96 was a successful Space Shuttle mission in 1999, the first to dock with the International Space Station, still under construction at that time. The shirt had never been worn or washed (I know these things). I wonder if it has some collector value.

The patch is exactly as shown on this page, including the Cyrillic spelling of Tokarev: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STS-96" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Nice find. I am sure that it has some collector value, but unless it is signed or was owned by a crew member you probably paid what it is worth. The best way to find out is to look on e-Bay. ;-)

I did, and it seems like there are too many of these shirts for them to have any special value.
