Houston police union endorses campus carry?

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Houston police union endorses campus carry?

Post by A-R »

Noticed in this ABC-13 Houston TV video that the Houston Police Officers Union has now endorsed concealed carry on campuses?

http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?secti ... id=7696887" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Campuscarry.com picked up on this too http://www.campuscarry.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But don't see a mention of it at HPOU web site ... http://www.hpou.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Unfortunately our campuses are just victim zones now.

Creating and publicizing a gun free zone will, in fact, increase the chances of the kind of tragedy we seek to prevent......as quoted from Dr. Michael S. Brown http://www.american-partisan.com/cols/brown/080800.htm

I wish I had been there for the interview, I occasionally walk by where they were standing but it's out of my way. That's great to hear that our law enforcement supports us on this issue.

My favorite quote from the article:
Daniel Crocker, a Texas A&M student and a board member for Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, said it makes no sense to have an "invisible line" at the edge of campus, beyond which guns are forbidden. He said law-abiding citizens heed that line, and criminals do not.

"There was one fundamental problem" with Tuesday's incident in Austin, he said. "Everyone was depending on the kindness and the mercy of a deranged lunatic."
The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere. -Thomas Jefferson

The open support of law enforcement is a fantastic boost in the right direction.

It's in the video
Houston Police Officers’ Union Endorses Campus Carry
http://www.campuscarry.com/2010/09/29/h ... y/#content" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The most noteworthy aspect of this report is the last thirty seconds, when the reporter doing the live “standup” reports that a representative for the Houston Police Officers’ Union, the largest police union in the state of Texas, spoke out in favor of legalizing licensed concealed carry (of handguns) on Texas college campuses and dismissed the notion that the presence of armed citizens would somehow cause chaos or confusion during or following a campus shooting.
