World War Z
Been a while since we had a good zombie thread. This gem is almost 18 months old now viewtopic.php?f=23&t=27079&hilit=zombie+apocalypse" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've never been a huge fan of the genre, but the TV show "The Walking Dead" really hooked me this fall. Then over Christmas break, my brother loaned me his copy of the book "World War Z" by Max Brooks (son of Mel, and author of the "Zombie Survival Guide"). I couldn't put it down, read the whole thing in less than a week. I've read on http://www.imdb.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; that a movie adaptation is planned for 2012.
So curious if the rest of you have read the book and which scenes or recollections/stories from the book you think are most worthy of inclusion in the movie. Obviously the "Battle of Yonkers" is a must. And the whole Chinese submarine story is worthwhile. But quite possibly my favorite is the female fighter pilot turned cargo plane pilot who goes down in swamps of Louisiana and is led to high ground and airlift rescue by a friendly civilian "skywatcher" via radio contact - the surprise ending to that story was awesome.
Also if you liked the stories in the book, check out these amateur short stories http://www.talesofworldwarz.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: World War Z
I've read it, and liked it.
The guy who talks about the war dogs gets to me because I'm a dog person.
I also really liked the story of the lady who talked about how unaware they were of anything, how even though there were news reports, she was worried about the fish's eye infection, and the mortgage, etc. Reminded me a lot of the conversion stories you see here. People are sometimes too busy with the trivial things to notice big events.
And they've got to put in the propaganda film the guy talks about where they light up zombies with a death ray. That'd just be cool on the big screen.

I've read it...loved it. I read within the first two days of buying it and have read it two other times.
The Battle of Yonkers is a must and I liked the part about the pilot too.
I've been waiting for the movie since I put it down. I heard somewhere that Brad Pitt's company was going to adpat is for the big screen.

If you do not have it already, get the free "Kindle for PC" from Amazon. It is great for viewing pictures -- loud and clear. Wife uses it for recipes and craftwork.

Resurrecting this old thread to comment on the movie "World War Z"
See how the title of the movie is the same as te book and is "based on" the book?
Well that's where the similarities between book and movie begin and end.
The movie is entertaining but to call it "World War Z" should be criminal false advertising.
