Hey folks, I'm a new Texas resident (with Texas DL) and I want to know if my GA weapons licence is still good here. Thanks.

Welcome, howdy and all that ... :tiphat: :patriot: :txflag:

Georgia and Texas have reciprocal CHL agreement. Beyond that, how/when your Georgia license would expire or be rendered void by nature of your relocating to Texas is really a question of Georgia law.

Recommend you consult http://www.handgunlaw.us" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://handgunlaw.us/states/georgia.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://handgunlaw.us/states/texas.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also recommend you plan to get a Texas CHL soon, and in the time being at least educate yourself fully on Texas carry laws by reading above links and this site. Plus the full text of Texas CHL law can be found here: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/InternetFo ... CHL-16.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ...

and cross-referenced here:
http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/?link=PE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Again, welcome, feel free to ask any questions and use the search functions of the web site. And if you're in Austin area, look me up when you're ready to get your Texas CHL.

biggest thing to know is there is NO open carry in Texas. I know of a few Georgians(my parents) who have made that mistake.

Since your original question has been answered, I would like to say:

Welcome to the Great State of Texas!

First off, welcome to the forum. :tiphat:

According to my info Georgia does not issue a non-resident permit, so once you establish residency in Texas, your permit from Georgia would not be valid ans hence would no longer be honored by Texas.

Texas does issue a non-resident permit, so if you can take the class and get your paperwork in with while still maintaining your Georgia residency, then you can get it issued with your Georgia address. The, once you have your license in hand, when you establish residency in Texas, you would have 30 days to submit for a change of address. That would cost you $25 to make the change.

So, bottom line, if you have moved here and already established residency, then your permit is not any good. However, Texas has a Motorist Protection Act and you can carry concealed in the car, but can't take it out if not at your home or business you control. That may help in the interim until you can get your Texas CHL in hand.

I would assume his GA license is valid until GA revokes the license.

OH is also a state that does not issue non-resident licenses. However, the statute that lists the valid reasons to revoke a license does not happen to include moving out of state as a valid reason for revocation. So in Ohio, some county sheriffs revoke your license when they get notified you've moved out of state, and other county sheriffs do not revoke it but will simply refuse renewal to former residents.

Welcome..

I too am from the peach state. Born and raised between Henry and Clayton counties, back before they turned into the slums. I've been reading throug the GA laws myself, as I plan on making a trip this summer to see family, but I can't find a clear and definate answer in the law about what signs, if any, are legal to keep from carrying inside a business similar to the 30.06. I'm getting the impression that just any "gun buster" type sign is sufficient. Any knowledge or opinions on this?
