Background Question

Post by stealthfightrf17 »

I thought I saw a post that showed how DPS timeline worked, and remeber it was written confusing. However, I thought it mentioned they have 30 days for the background check. Is that correct?

No, not correct. No such 30 day requirement for background checks. There is a 60 day requirement for them to issue a license, even that gets ignored. A couple of years ago when I got my CHL you could wait months. For me it was 180 days, even with no issues. Much faster these days. I heard of people getting theirs in a couple of weeks now.

Re: Background Question

I filled out an application online on April 5,2011, paid my $70 and printed out the "trace sheet" etc.

Went for my finger prints on 7 April and mailed off the entire package on 8 April.

I figure that they received everything on 11 April.

I waited a week or so and checked the website for my status. Nothing!! I waited a few more days
and checked again. Again, nothing!!

I called the DPS Concealed Handgun dept. and reached a very nice lady and explained to her that I did not see anything online
under my name. She asked me "Are you from New York?" I said "Yes, but I have lived in Texas since retiring from the air Force in
'84." I asked "How could you tell?" She laughed and I laughed. I simply cannot get rid of the accent.

She informed me that nothing goes on the website for status before 30 days. That's the only 30 days I have heard about. It takes
30 days before anything goes on the web site.

So here I sit waiting for my CHL. Right now it shows "Background check under review." Everything else is green and waiting on the
review of the background check and printing and mailing.

It has sat like that what seems to be forever. It has been like that for at least 3-4 weeks. Background check under review.

I have never committed any crime [except traffic moving violation, driving too slow] but the last was about 15 years ago. I have never been charged with any crime,
either as an adult or a kid. Surely they cannot be checking my stuff as a kid that was before computers were even thought of.

So, I have asked myself "Why is it taking me so long? Could it be that I came from New York?"

Seriously, many people have gotten theirs in a lot less time and my background check should be absolutely clean. Maybe that's the problem!! They do not believe anyone
has lived such a dull life.

It has taken me a few years to finally decide to get a CHL. I took the class, paid my fee and here I sit waiting while others get theirs in much less time. It has gotten
to be stressful looking at that website everyday and seeing nothing happen.

It is rapidly approaching 60 days and I wonder what is the problem?

If it goes beyond the 60 days who can I call for help. I may have made a mistake in not sending it "certified mail" so I do not have proof of the day
it was received.

I have heard that some have called their local senetor. Also a few have called Gov. Perry's office with good results. I would try that.

Same boat here, execpt I'm passed 60 days. I took the class with a group of friends and everyone has theirs except me :mad5
It's very frustrating. I have called my local rep and govenor perry's office. My rep's office contacted the DPS on my behalf and is trying to move things along. Was sorta disapointed when they said they would know something by friday(called monday). I've heard of others contacting their rep and getting immediate results. Not so with me :banghead:

What i have the hardest time understanding is how they can be so inconsistent. One person gets theirs in 25 days, one in 33 days, one in 45 days, one in 82 days, etc. Unreal.

Bulldog hello, it is very frustrating but I just now checked my status and i am happy to announce that my status changed for the good!! :clapping:

My background check shows complete and manufacture pending.

Hopefully the "manufacture" is not a BIG project and that it will only be a few more days.

On the morning of 3 June it said "manufacturing" and on Saturday June 4 it showed "mailed".

Funny part is I did not think they worked on Saturday. But the last thing in the evening of 3 June I checked
again, it was around 9 PM. It still showed "manufacturing" but then on the morning of 4 June it showed "mailed".

Chuck, I don't know this for a fact, but I wouldn't be surprised if updates to information on the website aren't batch processed, probably late at night, midnight, whatever.

I spoke with a lady down in Austin a few weeks ago and confirm that they are batch processed.

For instructors it tooks us actually getting the certificate before our status was updated to anything other than recieved.
