ANOTHER dang hot summer in TEXAS..!!

Post by Don2 »

Lived here all my life...Never got used to the heat yet..!! ( Should happen pretty soon hu? )

Point is, I never got to put an A/C in my newly rebuilt shop yet...then ran out of money.
Now I want to do some reloading, but DANG it's too hot out there..!!!

Can't do it in the house unless I want to move out on my own ;-) ( Know whatta mean? )
I'm running out of many calibers I usually shoot...Mostly pistol, 38/357 & 45acp's and 9mm/380.
Don't want to buy factory stuff, I have everything I need to load everything.
Guess I could get a few blocks of ice and a fan with a drip pan ??? :waiting:

Oh well...Just thought I'd say something here since everyone is being quiet.
Anyone else have something silly to say?

If you can't stand the heat, don't reload in the kitchen.

Actually....The kitchen would be cooler :cryin
Oh well....Winter will be here soon...Just another 4 months or so...!
I DO HAVE A GOOD HEATER and a lot of insulation. And you know our winters hardly ever get too cold for too long.
I can always put more clothes on, but can't take enough off to cool off.
Summer lasts MOST of the year. :mad5

I'm still thinking about blocks of ice

Two words - - - - swamp cooler. They are easy enough to rig up with a fan etc. Not too expensive to buy.

eta. Work on reloading at night when it's cooler or early AM same reason. Well unless you have one of those pesky jobs.:

Just reload 15-20 minutes at a time and take a break. 2-3 sessions 2-3 times per week and you should be good to go. If you can't get enough done in that time, might be time to trade up your press.

A friend of mine who ran a small Country Store a few miles away tried one of the SwampCoolers. YES...It did make it cooler, but it's already humid here, then you add more moisture in the air...I'm afraid all my reloading stuff and other tools will rust away ;-)

Been looking at the ones at Tractor Supply..they are still expensive to me. ( guess we all gotta pay, some up front some when the bill comes in ) :cryin

I might have to go call on him and see if he still has that swampcooler in his garage...He took it out of the store and broke the bank and bought a large self contained A/C for the store......Now that sucker get ice cold in there. BUT, it ALSo uses a lot of power for 240v unit...BUT I not complaining, I don't pay the bills. Plus he pays a commercial rate electric which is twice or more regular house service rate. OUCH...

I'm going to just load in the morning and late evening like I have been..its slow but works.( for now until I get a 220v window ac. )

Thanks Guys...good talking to ya. (typing to ya )

I don't reload, but having to work on a car in the garage when its hot is miserable as well.

I use box fans, and take frequent "AC breaks" to go in the house and cool off.

How about one of those "climate controlled" storage places for reloading?

I used to reload in the garage, it was not fun. I am in the house now, it is so much nicer. I also bought a Lee press I can use in the living room if the better half thinks I need to spend some time with the family . Not the fastest but it's another option for you.

I'm just going to buy a 220 a/c when I get in a little better financial shape.
I spent most of my money on rebuilding my shop. It use to be just outside walls and studs. Installed plastic sheeting, tar paper, fiberglass insulation in walls, 3/4" foam 4x8 foil side panels, then more plastic and tarpaper then 1/2" OSB.
It holds out the heat and keeps the cool in. BUT, the heat creeps in all day and makes it pretty hot. I think if I got a small 220 a/c...it should keep it very nice.
I only use one 110v electric heater to keep it warm in the winter. All the insulation I put in it payed off..!!
Too bad I ran out of money ;-)

Oh..Its a 12' x 35' building.....Metal roof, that's what makes it hot. Without the inside ceiling, it was like an Easy Bake Oven in there..!!! :evil2:

Thanks for chatting.

Can sympathize with you. My bench started getting too big with the addition of a second press and a large influx of supplies recently. Have now been relegated to the attached garage for all but powder and primers that I store inside. May have to invest in a window unit I can install/remove easily to avoid issues with the HOA....
