Need your help with a dog

Post by Bennies »

Hello everyone,

Our old neighbors brought a Weimaraner a few months back from a certified breeder then decided they did not want the dog anymore. They asked us to take the dog because they knew we were moving out on land. They were also thinking about sending it to a shelter if we did not take the dog.

My wife having a good heart did not want the dog to go to a shelter so she took her. We were thinking we might as well give her a try but we just do not have the time or energy to put into training the puppy. I have just had back surgery to fix a herniated disc, and we are trying to get our new place up and running in the middle of all that chaos.

The dog's name is Abigail. She has her AKC Papers but we have not even had time to register her. She is super sweet, very good with kids (except she jumps still), and seems to have an endless supply of energy.

We would like to meet whomever is willing to take her just so we know she is getting a good home. She needs a loving home who's owners are willing to train and work with her. I gaurentee she will make a beautiful amazing dog for someone.

We are now located outside Magnolia.

Most breeders I've heard of would take the puppy back...

We were able to get a hold of the breeder once who was very upset at our neighbors. When we told our neighbors we called the breeders the neighbors became upset at us for some reason and they told us they would work on finding new owners. So we did not turn the dog into the breeders to honor the neighbors request.

Well we got tired of trying to please our old neighbors and tried to call the breeder back and have not recieved a return phone call. I wish we would of turned the dog in regardless of what our neighbors wanted. They did give us the dog and used the shelter threat to entice us to take it.

Contact the Weim rescue group here in Texas and let them know you need to find a home for her, and are willing to keep her until a home is found. They should be able to help http://www.weimrescuetexas.org/main/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Weimaraner rescue folks are great and will help you out.

We had a big male years ago. Weims are great dogs but they require massive amounts of exercise and stern discipline. Once they are trained and know their boundaries you will not experience a more dedicated loving companion.

Sorry. We can't take her.

Thanks Keith,

My wife just placed a call to them a minute ago and left a message.

I wonder why the neighbors don't want the dog to go back to breeder? I know my breeder would find a great home for my dog if needed. Hell she sent us a longer list of questions when we contacted her about one of her dogs

Many breeder's get upset with the people who take a dog and take the responsibility, but then decide they can't handle it. So, I'll bet the people just didn't want word to get back to them they were bailing on their commitment.

Yeah this is exactly what happened. The breeder was super mad they only had her 3 weeks and then wanted to bail.

Agree--contact the rescue group. They'll take good care of the pooch and find it a good home.

We work with a local Boxer rescue group. That happens often-- cute tiny puppy grows into a big (untrained) puppy and the owner's give up. :banghead:

My recent loss would encourage me to assist, but I am going to wait a while.

If I was closer, I'd convince the wife to take her.

I love Weimers.
