Was watching one of the "ER" medical programs on TV. Seems like an 19 year old girl was reaching in the glove compartment of her vehicle to retrieve a .357 Magnum from the compartment to give to her boyfriend.

She grabbed it by the BARREL and pulled it out, during which it went off and pretty much destroyed her hand which would require many reconstructive surgeries. Obviously, the trigger hung on something as it was being pulled out.

Maybe she learned a lesson...maybe not...

At least she shot herself and not an innocent bystanders...

I find that hard to picture unless it was already cocked and something (a finger?) pulled the trigger.

We can't allow something like physics to destroy the narrative! Guns are EVIL! See how it just ruined the poor girls future career as a concert pianist!

I thought to qualify for a Darwin, the subject had to die, thereby removing them from the gene pool?

When I was in college, I used to manage a small pawnshop. Lots of lessons learned with that experience at a young age. Had a lady call in from a neighboring town, about 30 min drive away. She wanted to pawn revolver, but said she was scared to handle it. She said she put it in a box. I told her that when she arrived, leave the box in the car, and come in, and then I'd go to her car & safety check the gun.

Everything worked out a planned. The rather humble young wife said, "please be careful, I don't know anything about guns, I'm so scared of them." I put it in the box and didn't want to touch it any more." I took the lid off the shoebox and carefully removed a nice S&W 686, that had the hammer cocked back, with 4 live rounds in the wheel & a live round ready to go if the hammer dropped. Gave her a quick lesson in gun safety, but I don't think anything would have convinced her to handle the gun again. She was convinced she didn't have any business touching a gun, and that probably was for the best.

I used to get a chuckle everytime someone would hand me a gun and as I started to safety check, they would say, "don't worry, it ain't loaded". I'd tell them, "You'd be surprised how may rounds I've removed from unloaded guns". They would think about my comment a moment and then go, "oh, yeah".

I find it easy to picture that someone was pointing the gun at her and she grabbed the barrel and the gun went off, and she is protecting the shooter by saying it just went off by accident.

She's lucky it was just her hand. A .357 round to the torso would have made her day much worse.
