A truck "hauling weapons" crashes and burns on I10 near Sequin Monday evening.

A semi. Owned by a sporting goods store. With 100 weapons. Obviously there was *nothing* else in the trailer.

Luckily the driver survived.

Some of the weapons were damaged though. Wonder what kind of deal they'd make?

I'm going to suggest they change the headline to "hauling 300 pairs of running shoes".

That isn't necessarily true. He will probably be fired, but if the rest of his record is decent he will certainly find work with another firm easily and quickly.

There is a nationwide shortage of truck drivers and they are in high demand.

There might have been some ammo cooking off, but it sounds pretty much above board to me. My brother had an old Fiat burn to the ground once on the 110 Pasadena Freeway. It had a guitar in the trunk. That was it. When I was a motorcycle racer and part of the club "management," I often worked corners just for the thrill of it when I wasn't racing. I've seen a number of bikes crash and burn, and they weren't hauling anything except the mail.

The article said 100 weapons were DAMAGED by the fire. I can't imagine them using an 18 wheeler to haul only 100 weapons (unless for the military). There very well might be hundreds of undamaged weapons for sale... cheap.

If a gun is in a fire the chances are the metal's heat treating has been compromised. Years ago i read of a guy who got a Winchester Model 70 action that had been through a fire. He put a new barrel in the action then took it out to proof fire the gun. On the third shot the bold lugs cracked. He then took the broken bolt to a metallurgist the steel in both the bold and receiver was softened. I would be very cautious buying a fire damaged gun.
