Victoria Texas - the good bad and ugly?
Doing a college visit with my daughter to the Univ of Houston at Victoria. I have never been to Victoria. Any thoughts on it?

As long as it is in Texas it couldn't be too bad...

it's dull, I don't see how she can get in much trouble there....or maybe she can because there isn't much else to do?
seriously, my husband's father's family is all from there, every so often we have to make a trip down there. We go, we leave...if I'm lucky I stop by the quilt shop....
it's dull....
but it is closer to the water, it does have that going for it.

I have heard that the oil/gas boom has left places like Victoria with very little available housing.

She'll be on campus so that won't be an issue. I guess I'll check back after visiting tomorrow.

You probably won't have time, but some the best salt watering fishing in Texas is very close by in Port O'Connor.

I lived in Victoria for 15 years.
Its a geographical anomaly. 2 hours from anywhere fun.
There is a restaurant in Riverside Park, the Pumphouse, you might want to try. Its great http://www.victoriapumphouse.com/
Say hi to my ex-wife, and if you get the chance, grab my lawn tractor on the way out of town, its the only thing I miss.

My wife is from Victoria and she still has family there. We go down a few times a year to visit. It's a nice town, like others have said, there isn't much to do, but that can be a good thing.
All in all, there are a lot of worse places to have a daughter in school. There is also a really good restaurant at the old airport.
