Representative Brian McCall

It seems the representatives from our area are fairly responsive to this issue. Jerry Madden is from the part of Plano I live in and his office has helped several with the DPS.

Congrats on your plastic. :cheers2:

I was working with simone and her supravisor leo to get it done fast. A call to your rep really makes a diffrance.

Got another call from DPS today from a very nice lady that said it should be on its way soon. The prints should come back within a few days, and then they'll print the card. She also gave me her personal extension in case I don't see it within a couple weeks.

Just got an email from the DPS. My application still has not been entered into the system. :waiting:

I sent them a response asking why my application hasn't been entered in 80 days. :banghead:

I sent e-mails to both my state senator's office and the governor's office. No response. Big surprise there.

Application sent in on 4/21. Check cleared my bank on 5/1. As of 7/13 - still nothing. When I call they say its "not in the system". I'm thinking now that I'll be lucky to get the license by Halloween.

:grumble Hello everyone from Sugar Land, TX. This is my first post to the forum. My instructor was the one who told me about the TexasCHLForum site, so I owe him all the credit. Glad to be here.

This is where I stand as of today:

March 25 - Submitted online application request to DPS
April 12 - Took the class
April 13 - Mailed application packet via certified mail to DPS
April 17 - Application received by DPS
As of today, it has been 88 days and I am still waiting.

Horribly disappointed in the entire process. As a transplant to Texas, this if the first thing that the State has failed me on. I have read several posts encouraging people to call their State Rep about this issue, but I have resigned myself to hitting the 90 day mark before elevating the issue up. I am also hesitant to take the time to do so since I see that there are people in positions of influence who are aware of the issue. One of our esteemed politicians did meet with the now retired DPS commandant to discuss the issue. There was also a scathing article in the Houston Chron regarding the dysfunctional nature of the department and the dire need for a revamp. My thinking here is that eventually, with all this negative press, things will start to turn around - so I just have to stay positive about the whole deal.

My other issue is that my new Ruger LCP, which I selected as a back-up/secondary CCW malfunctioned on its first trip to the range. :fire After discharging my 21st round through the slick little gun, I noticed that the slide hadn't reset completely. When I brought the weapon down to a safe position, I noticed that the recoil spring had blown completely off of the retaining lug, out the front of the pistol, and lodged itself between the slide and the pistol's frame.

I had been on a wait list for the much hyped little gun since completing my training on April 12th, so it was only another example of the frustration I have become accustomed to in this whole process of becoming licensed. I own several Ruger products and this is the first that has ever failed on me. I have no doubt that they will make good on it, so I again resign myself to staying optimistic. I should have seen it coming, I guess...every time a company is burdened with trying to bring a hot product to market as quickly as possible, there are always QA/QC issues.

With that said, its good to be here with everyone. Thanks for letting me vent and find solace in our collective frustration.

Welcome, psidrop1, it is good to have you with us, and as luck would have it, it seems like we have a lot in common. I, too, just received my brand new Ruger LCP and took it to the range Friday (after being on the waiting list for ever)...well, need less to say, it is on it's way back to Ruger in Arizona today!! I couldn't even get one box of ammo through it without jamming, failures to feed and it would not even go back into battery after firing a round. I was very disappointed, to say the least, because I too was planning on using it as a back up. I have a Kel-Tec P-3AT but decided to get the Ruger for dependability...yeah, right...

I have fired 200+ rounds through the Kel-Tec and not one problem!! "rlol"

Good luck on your wait, hopefully, it will not be to much longer for both of us.

I agree with the ignoring, I have sent two emails to mine and haven't heard squat. Gonna get his number and call tomorrow.
