Ayn Rand wrote:Potentially, a government is the most dangerous threat to man's rights:
it holds a legal monopoly on the use of physical force against legally disarmed victims.
It is better said thusly: A government is a group of people who enjoy a monopoly on the use of
coercive deadly force in a certain region.
Freedom, by the way, means quite literally the absence of government coercion.
Something to chew on.

I hope none of you law-and-order types are planning on voting for KBH, either.
Why? What's she done that illegal?

She has publicly admitted to taking her .357 Magnum with her to Washington DC. Pre Heller.

Surprised they didn't send a SWAT team after her...

I did google before posting, actually, and didn't find it. Since you posted it as a fact, I presumed that you would be able to back up the statement with a reference. Or, tell me what search terms will turn up this elusive document.

Here's a few references of her and her famous .357:

Note though from what I've read, that she kept it in her home....she was NOT carrying.

Just having it was illegal prior to the Heller decision.
You didn't google very hard, ArmedFarmer. "Kay Bailey Hutchison" and ".357 Magnum" together turn up scads of blogs and news articles about it.

My bad. I thought we were still talking about Debra Medina, so that's who I was googling for.

"I have always had a handgun in the drawer next to my bed, and I would certainly again have one if it were legal in D.C.," Hutchison said.

I've attended a number of Debra Medina's speaking engagements.
She has stated numerous times before her audiences that she is very much in favor of open or concealed carry. She generally opens her speeches stating that the right to private property and arms are THE most essential rights for liberty.
The only specific law I have heard her personally endorse is a Texas equivalence of the Tennessee Firearm Freedom Act (Also similar legislation in Montana). She has iterated several times that firearms, ammunition, and firearm accessory sales and manufacture within the state of Texas and only the state of Texas does not concern interstate commerce and therefore federal jurisdiction does not apply.
As far as the elimination of property tax is concerned, she has stated that this is a "freedom" issue and not a revenue one. Her stance is that property taxes can not be uniformly and fairly collected and that the government has no right to your private property. Her solution is to institute a one-time sales tax on all property transactions (granted I haven't seen a percentage). I know it's a bit of foreign territory, but the state seems to do pretty well with sales taxes versus income taxes. I'd gladly pay a general use/consumption tax any day and own my home free and clear without having to worry about the government seizing it because I can't pay my taxes due to hyper-inflation.
I know the sentiment is that she can't win the election. I too have my doubts. However, keep in mind that only ~655,918 persons voted in the 2006 Republican Primary for the entire state. Debra would need around 220,000 to win. I see that as an optimistic, but achievable goal. If she can muster up the donations for a strategic media campaign, who knows? She was asked "Debra, why are you running in this election against Rick Perry and K Bailey, it seems kind of like David and Goliath don't you think?" to which she responded "You must not have heard the end of that story."
Aslo, there is a sentiment on the board here is that she is some out-of-the-woods nutjob that thinks she can institute all of these radical reforms like a petty dictator upon inauguration. I have never been given the impression that she thinks any of these changes will be anything but incremental. She has said something to the effect of "My job as your governor is to take the bully pulpit and use influence to fight for your freedoms." After all the Lt. Governor has more technical "power" with the Texas Senate than the Governor (which would be a wonderful check/balance to Perry should that unfold). She does however state that she fully intends to exercise the states 10th amendment rights of nullification, something that may be needed when Obamacare and EPA cap-n-trade come-a-calling.
I would encourage everyone to watch a few of her youtube videos or listen to her radio interviews. If you can make it to one of her speeches, you won't regret it.
