I guess the procedure now would to be to call the DPS immediately, and find out what they think they're lacking, and request that they look over it again, because you completed it properly...

Are you sure you put 1997 and didn't put 2007 by mistake? Did you put your employers address down?

They (the DPS) only need your addresses and employers covering the last 5 years. Call them up and ask why they think they need 10 years...which sounds suspiciously like the 'no convictions' time period. It could be that a new 'temp' has goofed.

I already talked to them twice - have you ever talked to the dps?- talked to two different people and got two different stories. I just typed up the home and employer data, sent the form letter back last Friday. i will know by this Friday if the application goes back to processing based on the time it took others who have done the same thing in the past 2-3 weeks.

Yes. I have spoken to them several times, and it is frustrating in the extreme when they ask you for something you shouldn't need to provide. Trust me, I know from personal experience.

If I were you, I would be tempted to include a letter asking why you had to do this and nobody else has to. The statute is clear on the requirements and they can't change them willy nilly.

I too was a victim of the "you failed to fill out the back of the address history" letter, even tho I'd been with the same employer 23 years, and in my home for 16 years. My guess is that they have soo many newbies up there.....

I am going to call my instructor today and warn him to tell future classes to fill out the back of the address history REGARDLESS of how long you have been at your job/home.

well my status changed back to 'Processing Application' this morning so I guess I only lost 2 weeks

Sooo... My online status still reads "Processing Application," but on Tuesday, I check the mail to find a large envelope from the CHL office.

"Oh crap..." I thought.

Yes, I got a letter that informed me that new fingerprints were needed. After a drive down to the local FAST/whoeverID place (without an appointment...don't get me started) and realizing their total worthlessness, I go to the College Station Police Department to get my new prints. Quick, easy, and the process, COOL.

Get this... Instead of inking up my stubby digits, they gave them a little squirt of water and pressed the pads of my fingers onto a glass scanner surface. In realtime, my fingerprint shows up HUGE on a computer monitor at the print station. One finger at a time, flat-down and rolled, it scanned my fingerprints, does some CSI looking red-pattern-y stuff, and determines whether it's a good print or not. Anyway, when all is said and done, the very very helpful CSPD clerk inserts my two new print cards into a printer and prints out SHAAAAARP perfect fingerprints onto the cards.


5/31 = CHL Class
6/01 = Packet Mailed
...I believe I already had my pin, because I paid DPS online...
crickets chirping...earth in orbit around sun...time passes...
7/16 = "Processing Application"
8/04 = Receive the feared "big brown envelope." New prints requested, new prints made, new prints sent back to CHL office.
8/06 = "Processing Application"

i used the fast finger printing, i made an appointment on the internet and went the next day took about 5 minutes and they turned out perfect i would highly recommend it

so what was the fee when the PD did it? That is the same process FAST uses

F.A.S.T. cost me $10

I received my license today. That makes it 50 days from my drop-off at DPS to license in the mail. This was a renewal, so that may be why my time was shorter than what others are reporting.

Well, I'm a little confused. As far as I know, FAST is the totally electronic capture and transmission of prints, right? No paper cards? OR is it just what I used...the electronic capture and printing method, but without finger inking?

...because the Police Station said that the DPS down the road has yet ANOTHER system, which might be more advanced than theirs.

My local office of the L-1 Identity Solutions told me that CHL requires paper cards.
L-1 Identity Solutions shows my local office (Bryan) as existing, but I can't make an appointment online.

My letter from the CHL office said that FAST is the easy way, blah blah.

...which brought me to "screw it...I'll go to the police station."

The PD actually didn't charge me. She was really nice and figured "you paid for it once already..."
