I don't get all the fuss either. I watched the news video and it didn't look anything like a real cavity search. I also didn't see anything the TSA doesn't do every day in airports, and like the female officer, TSA agents do not change gloves between passengers. As long as suspects keep hiding their drugs and weapons in their pants, it's a legitimate place to search for contraband.
Digital cavity searches or strip searches for contraband (not weapons) is not approved by any department I know of unless the subject was being placed in custodial confinement, and then they are to be performed by a licensed physician unless it is an extreme emergency. Roadside searches like this are NOT what the USSC ruled constitutional. If this was appropriate, then the female officer in this case would not be on suspension. TSA does NOT do digital cavity searches by the way.

Thank you for your personal opinion.
I think you'll find most here are in disagreement.. And I think in the coming months we will see the department, and with luck a judge/ jury does as well.

One point of correction... Yes, a TSA agent DOES change gloves after doing a hands on skin contact search of a travelers bits and parts that were searched in this reported case.

I have seen that in written policy, and in practice. And someplace around here we have a former TSA agent that might confirm as well.

I watched it again and it doesn't look like a cavity search to me and for the record Trooper Helleson is female.

Yeah that 10 second lingering around the second woman's nether region couldn't have possibly been digital penetration.

I don't care if she is female, doesn't matter, it was still overboard and not approved by DPS policy. I will not allow a body search by any LEO unless they have probable cause and then it is gonna be a pat down. Anything more is gonna take a warrant or someone is gonna lose their job without real PC.

Good grief! Unbelievable, just unbelievable that this subject has lasted this long.

Roadside cavity searches, my ear!

Oh well, the holiday season is finally over, everybody back on their heads,

That is not me. I was mikedude. I didn't want it known anymore that I was an LEO as I don't need the drama. It was easier to change names then argue. I NEVER said I supported roadside cavity searches nor am I texasheepdog. I also emailed the moderator to check the IP of texassheepdog as I believe they are a troll, and didn't want people thinking that was me. That was important enough to come out of my covert status.

I think it's lasted this long because it was a totally unnecessary, vile act perpetrated on two
women by folks that are supposed to be trusted. I also find it interesting how the members here
fall on one side of the line or the other. Food for thought. I found the voice track on the recording
fairly compelling. When at the scene, the woman stated that they did stick fingers in her orifices.
Not stated months later, but immediately after the fact. Was it a full on cavity
search? No. Was it a roadside sexual assault? I think so, and I think it was totally unjustified on
several levels. But, others have pointed out that since the ladies didn't "jump" or "wince" or were asked
to grasp their ankles etc ...then it was not a cavity search. I hope this thread stays at the top, because
I'm interested in knowing how, if anything, the DPS is going to handle this situation.
