Does anyone use a slow-motion camera to let them see exactly what the gun is doing as it cycles? Seems like it could help them figure out exactly where the problem is.

Or is that "cheating"?

Manufacturers or gunsmiths might.

The stoppage condition is clear enough - an overly sharp feed angle that causes the nose of the cartridge to hang up on the upper chamber wall.

I don't have such a camera and am not about to spend a couple times what the gun cost to get one to see the failure occur in slow mo when I can get it fixed for free under warranty.

I just traded with another member for a Ruger CMD and so far it has been great! (not to rub it in haha)

Not sure if you've already thought it or said it, but I would talk to Ruger and send them this thread to know just what you have gone through. If I were them I would more than just replace the gun, maybe upgrade the sights or something similar.

That course of action doesn't feel right to me.

Their records and my correspondence document all the efforts that have been made to get this particular firearm to work.

I'm not asking for any special treatment - I just want the reliable working gun I paid for.

The problems with this particular firearm are complex and I understand the difficulty in trying to fix them. Ruger is a fine company, and they have made two good faith efforts to fix it with quick turnarounds both times. These efforts cost them money in shipping costs and technician time. Still, they've been trying to do the right thing and have told me on the third go around that they are still committed to getting it right.

When I get a reliably working gun, I'll be more than happy to sing the company's praises for finally resolving the problems and providing me with a solid defensive weapon I can carry with confidence that it will work as designed when called upon.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that you get one... I was just thinking out loud about how I would go about diagnosing the issue.

OTOH, I'm not a gunsmith, so maybe that's part of it.

Update: Ruger has advised they will replace the pistol. Arrangements to do so are in progress.

I am looking forward to testing the new one, which I expect to be as good as everyone else who has one says they are.
