Where in the Constitution is the President given the power to forgive people's debts?
The [word I can't use on the forum] are using the HEROES (Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students) Act of 2003 as justification. Here's a PDF of the August 23 letter from the general counsel of the Department of Education:
https://www2.ed.gov/policy/gen/leg/foia ... lation.pdf. Thing is, that was passed
specifically for the immediate aftermath of 9/11, and the
intent was for the benefit military and first-responder and victim families. The limiting criterion was that it was to be used in a period of war, other military operation, or national emergency.
So what they're doing to transparently and disgustingly
buy millions of under-35 votes to the tune of $300 billion of our tax dollars is position this as follows: COVID was declared a national emergency; as a result, student loan payments were put on hold, a moratorium for two years; therefore--despite that even the CDC has reduced requirements and has long since stopped considering COVID an immediate, national emergency--this is going to be
treated as if COVID were still a national emergency, and 5 USC §552(a) then empowers the Secretary of Education to do this.
Pelosi, almost a year ago, stated on camera that the president did not have the ability, under the Constitution, to forgive these debts; that required an act of Congress. And she's correct. Biden is simply going to tell Miguel Cardona, the Secretary of Education, to make it happen. The Big Guy is going to order it be done, take all the fake political victory laps, and try to get away with lying to the American people by saying this is going to improve our economy and is the right thing to do...to take Joe the Plumber's hard earned pennies during a historic inflationary period and make him pay for some kid's education who got a degree in Renaissance Art Appreciation, lives in his parents' basement, and hasn't worked a day in his life...and hasn't had to make any student loan payments in two years anyway.
This is going to nothing but keep the employment situation stagnant (the worst labor force participation data since 1976, not counting one calendar quarter when everything was in COVID lockdown) by motivating the grown kid in the basement to just stay in the basement, stay unemployed, call himself an "entrepreneur," and work on his YouTube and Instagram followings...in other words, continue being a free-loading drain on society.
You want a recipe for bringing down a great nation? Just look at what's played out during the last 20 months, plus all the Russia-Russia nonsense during Trump's term. We keep going at this rate, we'll drop from the position of the world's superpower; the dollar will devalue and be replaced by the renminbi (yuan) as the world's index currency; inflation will hit the levels it did during the Carter administration; we will see energy shortages and a failing grid; and crime will escalate even more than it is now because there will be food and essentials shortages.
Polls this week are showing that democrats have made gains against Republicans in projecting the midterm elections. We absolutely
must unseat the dems in both the House and Senate. We can't do anything about the White House, so we need to get checks and balances in place. With teeth in them. Rein in this disastrous administration.
