I have no intention of OCing. A gun on my hip is for protection, it is not a "look at me" banner nor is it compensation for anything other than the fact that I'm not 25 and fighting fit anymore. The last thing I want is for some stranger to take a special interest in my gun, like someone asking you what time it is so they can determine if your watch is worth stealing (yes, it has happened to me). As far as WB asking customers to not OC goes I suspect we'll see a lot of that across the state for a few years. Big deal. I'll continue to walk past 30.07 signs all day long though a 30.06 sign will lose my business for good.

To the people that feel it is all or nothing and to OCTC, GET OVER IT! And please stop making it worse for everyone...

As someone who will be occassionally OCing, I don't see the problem here. I'm embarassed by the militant OC supporters.

IF I happen to be open carrying AND I decide I want to stop in at WB (highly unlikely that those two things will happen simultaneously, but whatever), just UNTUCK and cover, problem solved. I can tuck my shirt back in while in the parking lot if I so choose.

I would guess that this policy by Whataburger is a direct result of the antics and buffoonary displayed by CJ, Kory, and all their little pals. They've put a bad idea out there surrounding open carry, so much so that even some folks on this forum are equating anyone who would OC with those types. I can't get mad at Whataburger, but I am quite upset and annoyed by the rabid OC types who've done so much to create this mess. All we can do is follow the law, be good citizens, and practice carrying responsibly according to the situation. Hopefully the brouhaha will die down at some point in the future.

What I'm seeing from Terry Holcomb is that a few of the rabid OC supporters pressured WB into making a public statement about how they are going to treat OC. They took a page straight out of the MDA playbook and pressured a business to take a stand on a political issue that they wish would have just left them alone.

I'm certain that WB would have done what they did when OK became an OC state....................nothing, but that wasn't good enough for some.

I get sick of people always pushing the limits and trying to kick the ant pile. Why force an issue before we even know if there is an issue. Like it was said above, why not wait and see once open carry becomes legal? It may have been a non-issue. Now it is definitely and issue.

Terry Holcomb is in the same insane asylum as C.J. Grisham and Kory Watkins. He wanted everyone to know he is carrying a firearm. He may draw the wrong person's attention one of these days.

As usual, I agree with you. I prefer not putting a target on me for the bad guy to choose me as the first victim. If by fate he chooses me while I am concealed carry then so be it, but why would I ever help in his selection of me?

Not pointing fingers at all, just commenting.

I wonder if every single OC discussion will come down to the debate of "I don't want to be the target." They is absolutely zero evidence that this is the case. I know of exactly one story where this may happened.

OC is a decision that everyone has to make for themselves. Weighing the options and potential pitfalls is something that I've done and decided it's probably not for me on a daily basis, so I'll continue to CC.

OC is an OPTION, not a way of life. The militant types have either forgotten that or are so wrapped up in their fantasyland that they've never understood it. Either way, that small minority is poisoning the well already and we're still 6 months away.

This isn't going to be the last public announcement by a Texas company dropping the ban hammer.

I agree with everything else you said except this. WB did not choose to interject themselves, they were pushed into it by pro OCers who were putting lots of pressure on them.

They did to WB what MDA has done with Target, Kroger, Chipolte, etc.

I don't understand it either, but we have the same problem with Amateur Radio operators who provide backup communications for emergencies and blast around town with lights and sirens on their personal vehicles and several ham radios dangling from their belts shouting, "QSL...QSL...QSL." (Message received...for you non hams)

There is some doubt in my mind that the elevator stops at every floor of such individuals.

Personally I'm going to be a happy camper if I never have to be part of another lights and sirens ride! By far those have been the closest I've ever come to death.

I prefer not putting a target on me for the bad guy to choose me as the first victim.

Not arguing the point, but I am just curious if anyone has hard evidence, from other states that allow open carry, that anyone has been specifically targeted? I hear this all the time. If it is a real risk, I think we should quantify it somehow. How many have actually been proven to have been targeted compared to how many carry? 1% 5% 25%?

I don't think you will find that evidence from other states for the simple fact that people in other states don't OC. I'd be willing to bet the same will be true here in Texas.
