As I read this I think the real problem is the both of you are arguing valid and correct core principals.

He is correct, the best way to PREVENT such things is to reach and out help.

And

We are correct in saying that doesn’t always work, and that help is not always offered, and people like to have the ability to stop a disaster after it starts.

I'd take the approach, yep your right, but life doesn’t always work that way so I want this option to deal with.

Russell's quote:
"No, as far as your posts go I did not get the impression that you think at least the people posting here who have CHL's are some 'insane backwoods rednecks that go driving around in a beat up ford shooting anything that moves on the side of the road for fun'. Not at all."
This has been covered pretty well.
My only question is, didn't we meet at Papa Keith's in Riverside? You have described me pretty well except I can't hit a moving target and although I do drive the Ford pickup it has a Dodge Hemi in it.

Wow I just spent that last 40 mins trying to read thought all that and I’ll probably spend about 20 mins writing this. That’s a pretty good little debate you have going on over there. You and Jackal have seemed provide all fact and encounters that one could. But on the other side, seraphim85 and K LoLo only provide feelings of fear against CHL carry. Just as one of his post suggest that you can base facts on feelings. That is what he’s doing by trying to make his feelings into fact that’s guns are bad. Also in another post she quotes
K LoLo from other forum wrote:And not to be rude, but I read this, and reminded me of this post, and thought it was funny: "They say that guns dont kill people, people kill people. Well I think the gun helps. If you just stood there and yelled BANG, I dont think youd kill too many people." -- Eddie Izzard
I can tell you this. If you point your finger at someone and yell bang and they die from a heart attack guess what you might as well have shot them with a real gun because you are still responsible for your actions and will face prosecution. So in my honest opinion, that quote is stupid. (I would use more colorful language but I’m am trying to respect the 10yr old daughter rule.)

I’ll just say this and leave it at that. Harsh Language and stern warnings are no match for a good firearm at your side when the threat of violence invades your peaceful existence.

Russell:

I have not read through your entire thread so this suggestion may be redundant however, following is a link to a parable that may be useful in your debate.

The gun helps kill people, but so would a knife, a sword, a car, a rock or a pointy stick. In truth, it isn't about helping or not helping, its about intent and action. K LoLo and others like her are more afraid of what they themselves (or in a very few cases, their neighbor) will do if they think they have a little power. I'm not afraid of guns because I know I have the self-discipline to use 1) it appropriately (as in not go on a killing spree), and 2) learn to use it effectively (as in learn how to defend myself both with and without it, and learn WHEN I can use it as well).

Most of the people I know that want to ban guns, want the ban because they are afraid of the ease it gives in killing people, but they don't realize how easy it is to kill with your bare hands and are unwilling to acknowledge that BGs don't follow the law and will have firearms anyway. I recently saw a video showing people in Afghanistan making guns BY HAND out of all sorts of things, and showing a variety of different weapons that had been used in various insurgencies around the globe over the last decade. Even if you COULD successfully get rid of all guns, the knowledge would still be around and BGs would make their own (and their own black powerd & bullets if necessary!).
