Call and politely let them know they are five days late. They're going to tell you they are running a little behind and that it will be about two more weeks. Again, politely tell them the statute doesn't provide for "running a little behind" and that you need your CHL. My wife and two sons had to do precisely that on their renewals and they got them the next week.

I'm going to start another poll and thread on this subject. It sounds like something we need to address in the 2007 session.

Chas.

Let us kow how long it takes and please post it in the new thread and poll. I hope to have two years information to use in the 2007 Legislative session.

Thanks,
Chas.

I was told that issue had slowed down because they had moved to another location and were making some changes in the way they are set up. That should be finished and things back up to speed now.

Our instructor told us they had 60 "working days" but I don't see it mentioning that in the statute. Is that implied?

You are correct, it is not "working" days. That would effectively be 3 calendar months! I suspect this is what DPS is telling instructors in hopes they will pass this misinformation along to students and keep them from calling until after three months.

I e-mailed the DPS this morning and the woman said that my application has already been processed and that they will be able to issue my CHL as soon as some remaining paperwork comes in (that isn't from me). Also, she said to e-mail back in about a week so that she can check to see if that paperwork did come in, and if so, she will personally issue my CHL.

It took about 4 months for mine to be delivered - and I hand turned in my application. The thing that finally got it rolling was calling in (emailing didn't help) and politely asking what was taking so long. I think they are just backed up, so give a call and see what is going on and I bet you will be bumped to the top of the line. Mine was approved about 3 working hours after I called (called late on a Friday and it was approved by 10am on Monday).

I e-mailed again this morning and surprise, surprise. My remaining paperwork did come in and Ms. Leach said that she would mail my CHL today.

The total time from when I hand-delivered my stuff on January 18 to today, April 1, was 73 days.
