My wife's extended family almost all live in Nebraska. She has some uncles who are hunters and shooters, and some who are DIE HARD against any kind of gun at all. We've had some tense discussions at the family dinner table. I always keep my mouth shut, to be polite. But my father in law almost always involves me and last summer, pointed out the fact that I have, as he puts it, an "arsenal" at home. He also was kind enough to mention that I have a Texas CHL. We'd talked about it because he's interested in getting his also. He brought it up with the intent to say you guys liked him before you knew that about him, has he changed any? It backfired. I'm now the black sheep, bad in law on that side of the family. My name was left off of a Christmas card last year, and the mother in law has since been asked if I'm a violent person?!?!?!?! We're also going to Hell according to them because we're members of a Methodist church. But that's a WHOLE 'nother story!! :???:

Family disagreements can be really trying and stressful. My sympathies with having to deal with it. I have had many of those over the years, but luckily not over my CHL (in-laws are cool with it), so usually they get over it.

As for being condemned to going below when you die, I guess you will have company; I am Methodist too. ;-)

Don’t despair. I distinctly recall being taught in MYF, many years ago that one of the canons of the Methodist faith is that, in order to get into Heaven, all one must do is bring a covered dish.

The nice thing about becoming the "black sheep" is it removes all the stress of having to keep morons happy... for the "sake of the family." I learned this a few years ago (not at all firearms related), and came to the conclusion that I don't have to waste a moment's effort or thought dealing with anybody's crap, "family" or not. Amazing how relaxing this realization was. I mean really, life's to doggoned short to let some crab try to fill it with their personal bull.

BTW, the Christmas/Birthday/Anniversary card list thing goes both ways. :evil2:

Off my soapbox, now.

You are in good company here.

Seems that those of us who maintain ourselves according to a set of ethics and standards that do not go in step with the non-thinking masses aften are labelled as black sheep. However, we are not sheep.

Wow. Just found this thread thanks to the recent posts. Am glad Neb. now honors CHL's. But I had no idea they were so anti gun. The posts almost make it sound like Illinois or Wisconsin.

No worries. They share a pretty long border.
