As a civilian I've used my CCW twice...once on a drunk to de-escalate a situation, and once on a robber. In both cases it ended up back in the holster without being fired.

Three times pre-CHL. Once at an ATM, once protecting my wife and sons stuck in traffic, once at home in California preventing a robbery at my home.

Once Post CHL - very agressive Katrina/Rita evacuee in Beaumont.

Nope
But I'm amazed at how many folks here have had too.
I pray daily for the wisdom to know exactly when and when not.

Once in the office my boss and I drew on a man that came in and barged past the front desk and through the door to the office area. We held him at gunpoint until the police came.

On two occasions I had my hand on my gun (pocket carry) and was prepared to draw and shoot if I had to . . .

But I didn't have to . . . which is fine with me.

But in each case I was very, very glad to be armed.

I drew on a drunk one night in Bryan, about 2 weeks after i got my CHL, he thought that "No i wont give you a ride" meant "no, but you can try to take my truck anyway" funny how those two sound alike to someone who is drunk. he got the message when the glock cleared kydex. no issues since.

Yes, but it was many years ago and i did not have a CHL at the time. Girlfriend was being stalked by her EX-boyfriend/father of her child. Cops wouldnt do anything about it. He approached her at her school parking lot, she gave him a face full of pepper spray. He left a sobbing message on her machine about "how he would take being sprayed as a hint that she just wanted to be friends." (friends? friends? this guy is NUTS!!) well he calmed down for about a week then came back pounding down her door telling me that he was "going to take her, and you will never see her again" Glock 36 pressed against his forehead changed that. Police still didnt respond saying that they did not get involved with restraining orders and that we should just bring it up to the judge at the next support/custody hearing.

But I will say about a week after the adrenaline got out of my system.. i looked back in my mind and the imprint the barrel and recoil spring left in his forehead was priceless.

however, in the heat of the moment, the nausia from the excitement and the thought of "i may have to kill this guy, here, on her doorstep, in front of his child" was enough to make me dry heave a few times that night.

This is the attitude a CHL should have.

Thank you.

no and hopefully not ever. although just yesterday in broad daylight at a gas station in Eastland TX i was approached by to angry youths who were spouting off that i had "almost just (cussword cussword) run us over-dawg!. I stated that i had not and that they needed to watch where they were walking. (they basically dared me to hit them as i was pulling into the gas station i.e. didnt check for vehicles and then when they realized i was waiting on them to shuffle their feet out of my way they walked even slower) they kept approaching me with wild arm gestures and expletives so i told them "you dont want what i got, so beat it" they stopped at this and changed direction...still cussing of course.

I was adrenaline nauseated for a least a hour....

what gets into people?

be safe out there friends.
