I've read both of these books, and they are two of the best gun books I've ever read. No CHL holder should be without copies of these books, and they should be re-read a couple of times a year. I've never seen this type of book with so much current information, including how to carry, what holsters to consider, what guns to consider, etc. The personal real-life stories really hit hard. I ordered both books from Amazon.com, including the 2008 (5ht Edtion release of
The Concealed Handgun Manual.
I carried legally in Arkansas for seven years before moving to Texas and getting my CHL here. In Arkansas, there would be times I felt comfortable just leaving the gun at home or in my car, but nevermore. Not anymore, ever. After reading these books, I made the decision to wear or carry on my person everywhere it's legal, every time I leave the house. If you don't have it with you when and if "it" happens, what will you do?

You can find this book, most likely in an earlier edition but information is good just the same, at the Harris County Public Library for those folks around Houston. I'm guessing the book is in many libraries. You can also find quite a few other books and videos to check out for free.

Great book that I would highly recommend. I bought a copy at Barnes and Noble. Some of the print runs had a problem with missing pages.....around 345-400...., so if you buy one at a book store, be sure to check first. I called Chris to alert him to this, and he was most accomodating, and has been working to eliminate the print problems.
If you have a spouse/significant other who doesn't understand concealed carry, this is also an excellent, intelligent book that I would recommend you share with "doubters".
Chris, hats off to you for this fine addition....

I wonder if he is using the same printer as his last edition. In addition to missing pages, they have a problem with their binding - the pages fall out.
I bought my copy on Amazon so I couldn't inspect it prior to purchase.

Chris said he had the problems worked out. I ended up buying the book at another Barnes and Noble, and it was in great shape with no loose pages, etcetera. However, since there may still be a few defective copies out there, it just makes sense to take a minute and check before you go to the register.

Ordering now, appreciate it. I dusted off my copy of "texas gun owners guide" which was good but from 2002 so it's time to get an updated book!

An excellent book. Bought my copy this summer and couldn't put it down until I was done. Picked it back up and reread several chapter again.
