Blew off 100 rounds this weekend. Mostly rapid-fire. Not as accurate as I'd like, but I kept everything on the target, at least.

Now the Female Spousal Unit is considering getting her CHL, too. Honest conversation and a couple of weird feelings she's gotten recenly has her considering it.
I'll try to get her to the range soon to try out some different guns.

Congrats! Keeping my fingers crossed that someday the same will happen in our household. Had a good (and civil) conversation with her and some Canadian friends of ours where the missus spoke comfortably about "allowing" (her words, not mine, and not the time to get into it) me to keep a gun in the house and even feeling safer that it was there (a concept entirely foreign to members of Canadian society, but our friends are very level-headed folks otherwise, and we both listened politely to the other's thoughts & statistics, etc.). Then she had a dream this weekend that we experienced a home invasion and my hip-carried .45 and I were able to subdue both guys until the cops got there. Good little baby steps, IMO!bdickens wrote:Now the Female Spousal Unit is considering getting her CHL, too. I am desperately working at being upbeat, confident, expectant, and most of all... stay away from the DPS tracking site!
...it's addicting.
Instead...lets go to the range!

Practicing drawing from concealment this past week. Aiming for smoothness rather than speed and discovering that the speed seems to be coming almost automaticaly.
Practiced my marksmanship fundamentals yesterday afternoon. Let's just say I did a whole lot better that the idiot who was spraying lead everywhere from one pistol in each hand. What? Did he think he was in some kind of action movie? At least some of his rounds did hit the sillouete.

Also, in light of positive things to do while you wait: Find ALL the 30.06 signs, 51% signs, and other (junk) signs in your life. Make a record, ask questions about them now, report the bad ones and start figuring out how to replace those locations with the ENTIRELY OPTIONAL 30.06 sign.
Find 'em and start fixin' or avoidin' 'em.
I will NOT cross the threshold of a 30.06 sign, nor will they get my money, except when there is NO viable choice. (And I don't mean convenient choice.)
But while you are doing this -- USE the activity of "looking for signs" to remind yourself to LOOK AROUND, stay in condition yellow

Use things in your environment to TRIGGER

Getting out of your car? Look around. Going into a store? Do you see happy customers coming out? Coming out of a store? See anyone near your car? etc.
Try to find the CHL holders around you...good training for finding bad guys.
Try to SEE EVERYONE's HANDS --- if someone is going to hurt you it will almost always be using their hands or something they are holding.
If I cannot see your hands I am not yet happy.

Took Mr. Cotton's NRA Personal Protection in the Home class last weekend. Great class! Have been working on some of the ideas presented.
