I use Cor-Bons or Hornady Tap. I have also used Gold Dot and Golden Sabre in the past and didn't have any problems.
My posts on this website are worth every cent you paid me for them.

I like both the Corbon DPX and the Federal HST. The HST is near impossible to find, and DPX is outrageously priced compared to all others. I priced a box of 25 of the DPX at Cheaper than Dirt in Fort Worth yesterday for $35.00 / box. That is insane.

Ammunition to go has HST in stock in most calibers and bullet weights. They also have CorBon, Remington, Winchester, Speer, and Hornady along with several imported brands. www.ammunitiontogo.comCodeJockey wrote:I like both the Corbon DPX and the Federal HST. Re: Best personal protection round...
IMO, cost would not be that much of a hurdle when it comes to a defensive round that "you" feel performs well enough in a particular pistol you intend to use for that purpose...
So if you intend to carry a variety of pistols, a determination of what works best in each pairing of gun to ammo would need to happen...That's going to be either a fun task, or a chore depending on the shooter...
I have found out that the pairings are not always consistant...Sure, some ammo will work good enough in all, so it may not be too much of a stretch to figure it all out...
I kinda like how the Federal JHP's work in the smallest pistol we have, which is the Bersa .380...I had a concern that the caliber, and smaller action pistols would have a problem with JHP's of any manufacturer, but it ate it well...And I figured you'd want to have a round come out of there that would make an impact in a defensive shooting with a small hangun of that size and caliber...
My mid-sized carry handguns, SigPro 2340, and the Glock 23 both work well with the Speer Gold Dots, and seem to match well with the practice "ball" ammo I use to keep the cost down to practice...
I am getting more and more into the .45 realm, and have used Federal Hydroshok's as the primary defensive round if I carry the 1911's for that purpose...
Everyone works a bit different than the next shooter...But three things need to dovetail together to form that perfect team...Gun, ammo and shooter...For it all to be effective, and no one thing is going to be consistent between two or mores shooters...Thats what makes this such an individual effort...
I do though however have a box of magic bullets that are so expensive, I've only gone through one box in the years I've had them with this manufacturer...
Its a local company here in Texas, in the San Antonio area...Do a little research, and look at their data...Sure, they make it sound to good to be true, but I kinda like this stuff...
"RBCD" is the name of the manufacture...No, I do not get a kickback, even though I should...
If anything, the journey to this goal is half the fun...
Good luck...

I've put a few rounds of .40 RBCD downrange and kinda like it as well. Very light/fast projectile (over 2K ft/sec) and supposedly 100% frangible. My only concern is penetration because based on some low-tech tests such as firing though water-filled milk jugs, the best case calculated penetration is about 6 inches.stevie_d_64 wrote:

I mix a few of these in with Gold Dots in my magazines.
I'd like to see some better testing on designer bullets.

In my 40 i'm shooting some Remington 155 grn JHP I got from a Border Patrol source It is faster than gold dot and it prints good out of my sigpro 2022,But my EDC is a RIA 45acp compact 230 grn JHP,like everybody said shot placement is more important than a "magic" round
It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end-to-end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them

Not to be a smarty pants,
but the best defense round is the one loaded in the gun when you need it.
Situational awareness and Proper placement beats bullet style any day.

Re: Best personal protection round...
I'm not trying to push the Federals, but I had exactly the same experience. My Colt Government .380 feeds Hydro-Shoks much more reliably than round nose FMJs. It seemed to work equally reliably with other brands of JHPs. And similarly, my old Ithaca 1911A1 digests JHPs more reliably than FMJs.stevie_d_64 wrote:I kinda like how the Federal JHP's work in the smallest pistol we have, which is the Bersa .380...I had a concern that the caliber, and smaller action pistols would have a problem with JHP's of any manufacturer, but it ate it well...And I figured you'd want to have a round come out of there that would make an impact in a defensive shooting with a small hangun of that size and caliber...
It's one of the mysteries.

Ironically, I ordered 500 rounds from them last weekend and it shipped yesterday. It was a really good price too.MoJo wrote:Ammunition to go has HST in stock in most calibers and bullet weights. Re: Best personal protection round...
I found the penetration factor with these rounds to be accurate...Obviously, the energy is expended right around the point of impact, and not something that is carried through too far into a target...Turfspanker wrote:I've put a few rounds of .40 RBCD downrange and kinda like it as well.
