Weekend after next 5 or 6 of us guys are going to drive for an hour in one car to a private CHL class, and I presume at that time, in our car, we will have probably at least 6 guns if not more like 10-12 and well over 1000 rounds of ammunition. Is that a "small arsenal"?

The other day my friend and I went to the range with 7 guns and we must have gone through at least 400 rounds between us, and I brought home maybe 50 rounds. Is that a "small arsenal"?

Ridiculous. But it occurs to me that we have been conditioned to believe that guns are carried either by bad guys, or police. So when we find someone carrying a gun and they are not police, we assume they must be a bad guy. There was a thread on THR the other day about what movies would be over in 5 minutes if the characters were carrying. It's amazing how the entertainment products we consume propagate this idea that normal people never have a gun, when you see a gun on the screen it indicates that a bad guy is present, unless it's in the hands of the hero.

Small arsenal. Give me a break.

The difference is not between citizens and subjects. The difference is between a Citizen and a non-citizen. The soldier is not a citizen of Mexico.

I was referencing the post below and was stating that 5-6 individuals Jim referred to as vigilantes carrying firearms and ammunition in these united states are indeed citizens of these united states and not subjects to any crown, which is the reason we can do so:

I do sympathize with the soldier and hope everything works out for him eventually, but there is really no one to blame but himself. I have been to Mexico across the border of Texas many times pre 9-11 and always was aware that I was crossing an international border. I can not understand how he made the mistake.

I hate to beat the "small arsenal" phrase to death, but a couple of years ago, I drove 70 miles to pick up my sister and go to an indoor range near her home. I had, in a couple of range bags in the back seat, a .22 revolver, a .380, a .38, a 9mm and a .45, along with a couple of boxes of ammo for each, plus ear and eye protection and other miscellaenous stuff...not sure the reporter understands the concept.

well ya know half of us on this forum wouldn't go out to the mailbox unarmed so it seems awfully silly to not be able to go to a well-known dangerous place like Mexico unarmed.

maybe the reputation Mexico has for corrupt cops and banditos harassing, robbing and killing tourists would kind of disappear if the tourists were packing. but of course you can't let the tourists carry weapons without letting the citizens have them, and then if you let the citizens have weapons then this may just put a damper on government corruption... so the corrupt government will not let it happen.

what constantly irks me about this whole "Mexico is a bad place" thing is that the USA gets blamed half the time for bad things that happen to Mexicans who come over here, or for trying to limit Mexicans from coming here, or for not rolling out the red carpet, as if to say that by not allowing them to flee without restriction, we are somehow responsible for the corruption of their country. maybe what we should do at the border when illegals try and cross over is catch them, give them 1000 pesos and an M16, and then send them back.
