my wife just bought the same gun for her carry wepon. When we went to the range, I really like it. She is a good shot with it and really likes the way it feels and shoots. It has hardley any recoil. I guess I will have to buy me one now.

I don't buy handguns there for a myriad of reasons, one of which is I cannot get a feel for the weapon due to the fact that they refuse to remove the big chunk of metal in the trigger and surrounding areas.
I ask them to take it off. About half the time they do.
They never will at the ones I've been to in Austin. They absolutely refuse, even if I am considering buying it then and there.

funny about Academy and the trigger locks.

First time I was in there, the dude removed the mag on the gun I was looking at, locked it open and handed it to me with the trigger lock in it. I thought that was odd but I was a bigtime noob so I didn't bother to ask him if I could test fit it with no trigger lock, slide released and an empty magazine in it (pinky rest). Next time I went into the same store, I told the clerk I wanted to look at the same gun again (different clerk) and he pulled it out, removed the trigger lock, checked to be sure it was empty and then set it down with the mag in it and the slide released, no trigger lock.

That was in NW Austin.

But still I like Sportsman's Warehouse better... night and day difference with their counter behavior. however their Mil-Pro price is a little more IIRC.

That little Taurus is on my list of guns to have my wife check out when she gets her CHL... along with a Kahr CW9 and a Kel-Tec PF9. Whatever fits her hands best. I am not sure DA/SA is for me so I'd have to find a used one to make it worthwhile for me. I'm not into manual safeties either... well maybe I should stick with Kahr!

I don't think I've been to the one up there. I've gone to the I-35/183 store and the one down south. Perhaps it has to do with the areas they're in. I did buy a Remington 870 Express at the I-35 location, but I'd already handled an 870 before and they're pretty much all alike. It only had a plastic trigger block on it, so it didn't really affect the weight, and I could get my finger in a straight line over the trigger guard to get a good feel on how it handled.

Sportsman's Warehouse definitely wins it in customer service. The gun counter guys were great and didn't pull all the trigger lock nonsense like they do at Academy. They also let you dry fire the guns. Unfortunately, their prices are all kinds of out of whack. I'd be willing to pay a little more to buy there, but the difference in price simply doesn't justify it for me. It also irks me that they tend to carry only the more expensive brands of stuff. No Lee reloading equipment and only the more expensive brands of ammo were available.

Interesting that you have that response about Sportsman's Warehouse. For the P111 it's $50 more than Academy. But a Kahr CW9 (you see, I am in the market for a CW9) is only about $10 more than the cheapest price on the planet. Likewise once you get into decent ammo, their prices are the same as Academy for 9mm anyway.

Customer service is way better though. And they know what they are talking about, to a much higher degree.

I actually posted my impressions of the place when I went there a while back....

http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... 4&p=159855

I wasn't really looking for guns then, but did glance over their counter and found things to be a little pricey. I don't remember any specific prices, as it was a while ago and not really what I went for anyway. It was fun to handle a Desert Eagle for the first time, tho. If I'm ever there again, I'll take a look at what they have and what it's priced at... perhaps they're not as bad as I remember. And they still haven't come through with an online listing of products at all... apparently "soon" does not mean inside of 8 months time. :grumble

[EDIT: and now maybe I know why. Their site runs on IIS, and I can't even get simple forms to work there and instead get an IIS error spit back out at me. wee!)

I know this is going way off the original topic but today I stopped by Wal Mart and picked a couple of boxes of WWB 9mm FMJ since Wal Mart has the best price... but I did have to wait like 20 minutes and walk over to automotive multiple times to get them to page someone to come over to the sporting goods dept to hand me those locked-up boxes.

So they are about $18.42 per 100 box at Wal Mart and like $23 per 100 box at Sportsman's Warehouse (which is about the same price as Academy). But at Sportsman's Warehouse, they don't keep it behind some counter, you just go grab a box and head out. I guess you pay $5 for the convenience factor. That's one real nice thing about Sportsman's Warehouse in RR... you can just get what you need and get out. You even have to get a clerk to give you ammo at Academy.

Don't worry, It's been off topic for a while now. Anyway, the Wal-Mart in Round Rock don't keep the ammo locked up. If I have to wait for very long to get any help at the counter, I just walk back there and get them myself and pay for them up front. Usually there is someone there easy enough to find though. I know what you mean abou at Academy and Sportsmans Warehouse. I don't know why Academy does that, there rifle ammo is all out for everyone to get them self.
