THIS.
I will leave it only as that.
once again, this is in no way a dig at any one else's desires, beliefs, or whatnot.
ymmv, as ianal, afaik, iirc.
While I get the gist of the argument and can respect the viewpoint, I'd like to counter with this. It's considered bad luck
not to name a boat. Naming inanimate objects is not without precedent. Of course, I'd worry about anyone who actually named their gun thinking it was a living thing. It's all in good fun.

Well, counter-counter; Boats aren't in jeopardy of being banned anytime soon for reasons having to do with a supposed mind-altering power they have on their driver that makes the driver more likely to use the boat to run over swimmers.

True. However, the intention here is to see if people name them for codeword/fun purposes. It's not like I throw birthday parties for mine or buy it flowers...not real ones at least.

Mind altering powers!! Even Sarah Brady herself couldn't come up with that one.
To be honest I didn't know guns were in such jeopardy. I know I don't really believe that anyone is going to ever come and take my guns away from me. While some might try throw one of them "reasonable restrictions" at us, I think most rationable folks don't believe that our guns are in no danger of being taken away from.
Words like cold, pry and dead fingers come to mind.
I call mine Barby Beretta Pete Repeat

I guess that makes me one of the irrational folks. I sincerely believe that sooner or later there will be a governmental effort to do just that.

& here is the real world problem w/ the cold dead hands statement. I support Charlton Heston. Life member of NRA. I personally am at the bridge on many issues but here is what I see in a nut shell.
Govt comes for them. Choices are.
Give one up & hide the rest. That dont take Perry Mason to figure out to come back in a week w/ a search warent. By that time ther may be no need for a warent to search for

GUNS

.
Fight & die. Noble but who will care for the wife & children then.
Fight & win. Killed all 8 of the LEOs & 14 Natl Guardsmen that came after them.
Now you cant stay at home, go to work tomorrow, go to any families house.....
Being a Law Abiding Citizen all my life I dont know how to make it on the street stealing & hiding.
What is my plan. I dont have one. Hope God raises up another Washington, Jefferson, Henry, Weatherspoon, Paine,......by that time.

I put the remarks of Dead fingers prying as sort of a jest, but I really don't know any gun owners who would just roll over and hand their guns over to the authoritys without a fight. I understand that there are people that would like to take our guns away, but for cryin' out loud we just won a Supreme Court decision where they
unanimously agreed that that our right to keep and bear arms is an uncontestable right for the individual. Even the Brady's are admitting they lost big time. Most liberals admit that even talking about gun control is political suicide.
Look at the gains we have made in the country especially in Texas.
When I first move to Texas in 1988 I lost my right to carry, There was an Assault Weapons Ban, and the idea of the the RKBA was debated whether it meant anything or not. Carrying a gun in our cars was under a moving set of rules. and Texas was considered a Democratic State.
So yeah, there will be attempts in our future to put limitations on what we can purchase and how we are able to use our guns. We will be under constant attack and we must be ever vigilant. But I can't see how it would unfold that someone would come into our homes in Texas and take our weapons away. Maybe if we were overrun by a foreign government .
There are certain conditions that good men will take arms and put their safety and well being in danger. Anyone who has served our country understands the neccessity of doing such. Because men feel this way we are today a free people. When we as a nation become so afraid for our lives we will lose this freedom that we enjoy. Yeah, fingers, prying and all that good stuff. I mean it. but I'm not all that concerned. I think that things are under pretty good control right now.

Well, I'm not going to go into philosophical discussion on the naming of weapons, but I have named two of my guns, am working on the rest. The abilty to refer to carry pistols with significant others in public without saying "your gun" is one good reason for naming guns that others have mentioned many times on these forums.
Like my computers, my guns have girls' names. I name them with their attributes in mind. I read a lot of webcomics, so the names for my guns so far have come from characters in some of the comics I have frequented. Here are the two I have named so far:

Angela is an FEG PA-63. The character is small and spunky, with a bit of flair. The PA-63 (in 9mm Makarov) is small, light, and has considerable felt recoil. Many have termed it "snappy". The aluminum frame gives the gun a two-tone appearance, hence the "flair" attribute.

Dora is an FM-90 Hi-Power. The character is sleek, attractive, and dark (in hair and dress), and is a no-nonsense kind of girl. She owns a business, but knows how to make work enjoyable. This Hi-Power is all about business, but is a beautiful design known for its reliability. It has a commander hammer and Pachmayr finger-grooved wraparound grips that make it a more pleasurable weapon to work with (for me, at least) than the stock components that come with the standard Hi-Power. The gun is all black, something that I wanted for ease of concealment.
If you're (for some reason) interested in looking up the origins for the names, you can find character profiles at the links below:
Angela:

Dora:

Fair warning: these comics aren't exactly right-wing material. They mainly deal with generally liberal characters in their 20's living everyday life. If you surf around long enough, you'll find a comic with some sort of language that may offend you, but the pages I have linked do not contain profane material.

I tried naming my collectible milsurp rifles, since they're all classy ladies in wood and blue steel, but to be honest I've forgotten them. I guess I'm just a monogamist at heart; I could never keep track of all the names if I had a harem of 24 wives, and the same is true of my rifle collection. So, I just call 'em all "Baby".
We've always named our vehicles, though. My '82 GMC truck is Ol' Red. Our 2000 GMC conversion van is Pig, because after our maiden trip in her my wife asked what I thought. I patted the dash and said, "That'll do." As in, "That'll do, pig, that'll do" from the movie
Babe. Oh, and Pig also loves her slop; 16mpg at best, 10 when towing our trailer. We recently had our first $96 fill-up.
As for our trailer, she's "Fate". We had been on the phone with a dealer in Rockwall (McClain's), and they gave us directions including which exit to take. They only gave us the exit number; when we got there, we saw the sign: "Fate --->".
Rut-roh. We were only about 50% sure we were going to buy a trailer that day, but we towed one home. "Fate" it was.
