The thing is, who on the show is going to have the moral backbone to say they won't work with him anymore. With the amount of money some of them make, I know they'll ride it out, but JD needs to man up for a change and refuse to work with Russ, even though they've been friends forever. If my best friend of almost 20 years ago beat his wife I'd drop him like a bad habit. I want no part of associating with such individuals.

There are alot of questions about why she waited until the next day to report it and if this actually happened at his house, did she leave and go somewhere else for the night or what. Court will figure it out I guess.

According to the affidavit the assault occurred about 9:30 - 10:00 in the evening and she left and went to her parent's in Plano. Link to the affidavit http://static.cbslocal.com/station/ktvt ... martin.pdf (Warning: one curse word in the affidavit.)

Also, he "dropped the magazine out and removed several bullets into his hand." From the magazine or the gun? This sounds like clearing the weapon, but where would "several bullets" come from in that case?

I haven't listened to Russ in a while but something smells fishy. Seems like I remember that his GF is a XXth degree black belt. Seems to me she could "handle" herself if she were to get in a situation like that.

Just saw on the news where the Grand Jury handed down Misdemeanor Assault charges. Looks like Russ is in the clear for Felonies, but may still lose his CHL for 5 years if convicted on a Class A or B misdemeanor.

Actually, since this was his girlfriend, he'll lose his ability to own firearms forever, because this will be a domestic violence misdemeanor.

The key point will be whether she was a "person similarly situated to a spouse", meaning whether they lived together. I seem to recall getting that impression from the news at the time.

A girlfriend, even a fiancee, is not "domestic".

Ah. I guess I jumped to that conclusion from the way the early reports were worded and then it stuck in my head that "domestic violence" would cover the relationship without remembering the details of how that would work. So, maybe (if convicted) he'll lose his CHL for a few years, or maybe he'll lose all of his firearms forever. Whichever is the case, it serves as a reminder to never let your anger control you.

The Grand Jury handed down a misdemeanor, short of Russ incriminating himself in court the charges can not be increased. Thus, the charge can not be raised to felony and he should not lose any of his firearms.

If they were living together, then even a misdemeanor conviction involving an act of violence or threats against her, means losing all of his firearms, forever.

Thanks to Sen. Lautenberg.
