This is a major first step. Whether or not you carry a gun, if you don't have this mindset, you will end up being a victim. Only when you adopt this mindset will you stop being a victim.

For years we have all been told to just do what the attacker says and everything will be okay. So that is pretty much the mindset of the sheep. Just do what they say and then call 911. They never thought about what to do when the attackers just want to end innocent lives. Onboard all the flights that were hijacked on 9/11 they told the passengers to just stay calm, they have a bomb on the plane and are returning to the airport to have their demands met and everything is going to be okay. So using what they have been taught they more than likely complied with these demands and had no ideal what was really going on.

I strongly feel that if they are going to start to teach fighting back again why not allow us the tools that will give us the greatest chance of survival. But it is still none the less a step in the direction that we need to take to get people to realize that 911 doesn't solve all your problems.

Out of curiosity, where did you get that information?

At least not in the time frame needed. ;-)

If the need for help is "immediate" (and it usually is) then calling upon 1911 might be a better choice (if lawful).

Watched The Flight That Fought Back the other night on discovery channel and they played audio from the black box that had the terroist telling the passengers that. They also said that he thought that he was only addressing the passangers but he was also transmitting to the air controllers so they heard it as well. Which that might offer an explanation of why the first 3 flights didn't fight back. They all thought they were just going back to the airport.

bullet 34

Plus flight 93 happened after the towers were hit and it was pasted all over the news...the personal calls to lovedones revealed that they weren't going back but were going to be crashed anyway

I learn something new everyday...

I would imagine that aircraft hijackings will never be the same after those incidents. In fact, have there been any attempted hijacks on board American Aircraft over the US since then?

No.

Active shooter incidents would drop dramatically too if folks caught on to the fact that it's virtually the same thing as an aircraft hijacking and counterattacked instead of cowered. Offenders in these types of incidents seek fame, notoriety, and high body counts, and attack where resistance is least likely. Increased chance of effective resistance produces decreased chances that an offender will think it's a good idea in that venue. If they knew folks would use good tactics and take them down either with firearms or improvised weapons, they'd either pick another target or find something better to do.
