IANAL. but IMO the contract offices would be off-limits in the store itself (if they are recognized as an official sub-station), but outside the building and other stores in the strip mall would not be.

What I understood the OP to be talking about was a retail establishment that also had post office boxes and maybe sold stamps and some similar functions. These places are private businesses.

Retail establishments are the most likely places to be robbed, especially those that are open early and late, have little traffic, and are quick-in-quick-out.

If you go in for one minute, you have much less risk than someone who works there all day.

On a statistical basis, perhaps, but you won't find yourself 75% attacked. On a practical basis, your risk is either 100% or zero. it all depends on which minute(s) you choose.

I am not saying that people should not be as prepared as they can be for anything that can go wrong anywhere, any time. Of course we should.

What I am trying to say is that for someone who thinks it is illegal to carry in a post office (which is not at all clear), going into one disarmed to mail a letter is a lot different from working in one.

The people who work in a store are far more likely to be targets than customers. Some robbers will wait until there are no customers, then commit their crime.

Of course robbers sometimes go after customers, but that is not common.

I understood the previous posts to be discussing risk from the point of view of visiting clientele rather than store employees. However, I agree that in a store robbery, customers are usually incidental victims of opportunity rather than primary targets.

I guess I'm lucky, when I mailed off my CHL packet last year at my local post office the lady at the counter looked at the address & asked me if I enjoyed my class. She then smiled and said she always carries & feels good knowing there is one more person out there who will also have a CCW on them. I don't think anyone at my local post office is looking too hard.

When I was mailing out some troop boxes recently, which always takes at least a half hour even if there isn't a line, I asked the owner of the contract PO where I was doing the mailing, and he told me he knew of no law or regulation pertaining to his place of business.

Postal employee aren't federal employees.

Robberies are not common in the grand scheme of things. I carry for the uncommon stuff.
