I've got a small collection of pocket knives. Most with clips. One is even pink (and made by Browning). One is in my pocket right now.

And a Leatherman, a Buck Tool, and a Zilla.....

What does the "Y" have to do with it?

I recall carrying a small pen-knife with me (most of them were gifts) from about the 5th grade on up thru HS...

I used iot to sharpen my pencil and let some of my classmates (girls included, or some of them let me sharpen their pencils because I was a cutey, no really, I was told many times I was a cutey) do their own...

I remember my teacher borrowing it a few times to do the same...

Geesh, sometimes I wonder what happened between then and now...

I was standing behind a guy in line at Walmart one day for quite some time. I saw the clip and exposed butt of the knife and some of that sort of camo synthetic on it. I stood behind him for a good ten minutes before I recognized it was a Kel-Tec slipped into his back pocket. He had a piece of something between the pistol and outer shell of the pocket to kill the outline. I could just see into his pocket when up close and see the grip.
I guess I expected to see clip knives and that's what I saw at first.

Teacher's asking for scissors or something sharp were often offered about 6 knives at my HS, and I graduated in 2004... then again it was a private Christian school in New Braunfels, and my teachers all liked me.

I realized how scared the general public was of knives for the first time when I was visiting a friend in Grapevine about a year ago. We somehow ended up at his little sister's volleyball game. A girl on the team had some kind of bracelet / string tied around her wrist, and the Ref said she couldn't play with it. After trying to untie it, the coach asked if anyone had scissors. I whipped out my Gerber and handed it to him, he used it and handed it back (after he couldn't figure out how to close it). The hushed silence should have clued me in, but I thought nothing of it 'til 4 or 5 people moved away from me when I sat down again.

My dad gave me my first pocket knife when I was around 8 yrs old, wasn't sharp but still a knife.. I've pretty much carried one on me ever since, a knife with a clip since about 12 yrs old.. It was with me when I went to public school, even though it wasn't allowed ( graduated in '99 at 16 yrs old ).. It was a tool to me ( which is why I dont have my favorite right now, 130 dollar Kershaw I used as a prybar, which turned it into a flat head screw driver , thats what's great about high dollar knives though, they fix them for free )...

try sitting in the OR, you know, the place where they cut on PEOPLE, and the surgeon asks for a knife to cut a string off his surgical cap (it wasn't sterile so he didn't wanna dirty up a 10-blade), so's I hand him my pocket-clip knife. one of the sales reps (I've always equated these guys with used car salesmen) freaks out about me having a knife. "You can't have a weapon in here, this is a HOSPITAL!!!!!!!" *add lots of panty-wringing emotion*

he shut up.

I once stuck myself accidentally in the finger tip with a Barde Parker #10 blade. I've been scared of them ever since. They're so sharp, you don't actually feel 'em go in until you hit the bone. No wonder that sales rep shut up when you mentioned that to him.

I have carried a knife pretty much every day since I was about 7 years old. I didn't start carrying a clip knife until about a year ago when I couldn't my Great Grandpa's "Old Timer". Being that it was my Great Grandpa's when I found it I figured it was about time to put it in a safe place.

I never thoult much about having a knife cause I have always had one. But I have come in contact with a few people that are surprised by carrying a knife. For a few years I carried a 3 1/2" fixed blade knife and people really look at you hard if you do that. Even thou it is legal, people think it is bad as carrying a handgun.

I carry a 4 inch folder concealed.

Eyes get big and round when it comes out.

To be honest, its my go-to weapon before my pistol.

For me at least, a visible knife clip is one of the indicators that, when paired with a few others, might make me think someone is carrying. Other "indicators" that might make me look for a bulge would be:

Thick belt, obviously any kind of tactical clothing (vest, cargo pants, certain shoes) large shirt (think Hawaiian).

OK, you guys might laugh at this last one, but it seems like there are lots of men with mustaches who carry...

Oh, and so far, everyone I know that is a pilot or rides a motorcycle carries...maybe it's a trend?

My current daily pocket knife... ...not the best there is, but a pretty good knife anyway. There are others like it, but this one's mine.

An excellent knife IMO.

As many knives as I have...the Kershaw Blur is still the one I carry everyday. I have a slightly different blade style (yours is the Tanto), but otherwise they are the same.

In fact, I gave my Randall King Phantom Reflex to my Daughter after fooling around with the blur for awhile. Ergonomically, it is well thought out and performs well. It is easy to maneuver into a reverse grip and just long enough (closed) to offer a bit of "punyo" for striking.

Upon first look...it was not a knife I would have picked for daily carry self defense. I was to change my pretty quickly. The one I have is a cherished gift (thank you, El Gato), and I quickly fell in love with it after just a couple of days working with it. Apparently, Tom already knew something I did not.

I think you made a good choice TAM. While I prefer the other style blade (with a belly) for draw cuts...I can't fault the Tanto if it handles anything like mine.

Which means, in this context, the only way that the presence of a clip knife indicates you are carrying a gun is that the clip knife is the same thing as a gun.

iff = "if and only if", a two-way "implies", from symbolic logic
