Re: All-time favorite playthings
That is an easy question.....my first pocket knife! I thought I could defeat the world with it. I was hooked on them immediately and absolutely nothing has changed.

when I was a wee lad, it'd hafta be the GI Joe army I amassed. groing up on military bases, I always was fond of getting some kind of tank or plane that I could actually see with some regularity.
the Cobra SR71 was by far, and away, my favorite. my brother was nice enough to challenge it's ability of flight, to which it failed, but did pass in the crash test arena, for although it flew with little grace across the living room, it escaped completely unscathed from that adventure.
couple that with the entire line of GI Joe comics, and I could entertain myself for hours (much to Mom's delight, I'm sure...)

FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

It would have to be my Daisy lever action BB gun. I had more fun with that BB gun and got into more trouble with it than anything. My dad make me a sling shot and I always carried it in my back pocket and the Daisy at the ready. I guess you could say, it was my back up.

Most awesome plaything was definitely the Super Nintendo. That thing still works to this day, and I play it often.
Most awesome sentimental gift: At 10, my grandfather giving me his 30-30 that his father had given him when he was 10.

Lego's, erector set, and a whole pile of electronic parts. Made some crazy stuff.. The BB gun was cool, but it was always so windy around here you were hardly able to hit what you were aiming for.. RC cars were cool, loved them, but it didnt take long and I'd think of a better use for the parts

You young whipper-snapper. We didn't have computers and video games when I was a kid. The only game we had to play was 'Push the dead bird with a stick.'agbullet2k1 wrote:Most awesome plaything was definitely the Super Nintendo. That thing still works to this day, and I play it often.

Mattel Fanner 50's and the Daisy Red Ryder BB gun. Still have it and use it regularly on marauding grackles. Always looked forward to Christmas because it meant a big tube or two of bb's in the stocking.....had trouble keeping in ammo even then.

Yeah, but only if you found another dead bird for your friend to push to. Then you had the two-player version with separate control consoles.agbullet2k1 wrote:Did it have an expansion pack?Keith B wrote:You young whipper-snapper. Seriously, we made up a lot of games playing Army and hide and seek. Rode bicycles and when I got a little older, got a mini-bike that was a lot of fun. For those that may not know what a mini-bike is, here is a photo.

I don't remember the name, but I had a Red Pedal Tractor with the narrow wheels up front.
I rode that all the time in my Grandmother's back yard!
Looked something like the one attached here, but I am almost certain mine was red.

Re: All-time favorite playthings
Man oh man there are some classics listed already...I saw the posts for legos and I was thinking "dang I'm ancient" , it was lincoln logs back in my day. Far as the computer games and all, it gets worse than just merely ancient, I'm more like prehistoric. Anyways my lovely bride of 39 years insists I report that my high school sweetheart should've been my # choice. I'm sure there's another couple few other old goats on here that understand that one. I wish there'd be some of the Ladies chip in with what their favorites were. I can sure see the sparkle and gleam in everyones' eyes as they reflect back and recollect these priceless treasures all but lost on the rat race of today. Well thanks!
Re: All-time favorite playthings
You can still buy Lincoln Logs and Legos and Erector Sets. I agree that these free-form toys stimulate the imagination.

My "imagination" and erector sets got me in hot water on more than a few occasions.seamusTX wrote:You can still buy Lincoln Logs and Legos and Erector Sets. I agree that these free-form toys stimulate the imagination.

Photon and Lazer tag were cool. Star Wars Millinium Falcon. The G.I. JOE Aircraft Carrier was pretty cool too. Legos always great.
However I was an evil little kid and would know what I was getting before Christmas morning. I would sneak in with clear tape and scissors and carefully cut the tage and unfolder the side of the flap. Take a peak at what it was and then close it back up and place a piece of tape right over where the old tape was. Parents didn't find out until about 25 years later when I told them.
I can say this though. While shopping for my son this year I noticed that the toys now days are nothing like where we grew up with.
