What "lawyer features" are you referring to? I know that you can also get them without the mag disconnect if thats what you mean.
My newbie bought one recently...The "lawyer" feature is that "key lock safety" that disengages something internal or blocks the operation of the pistol...I don't know exactly what, but its supposed to appease some segment of the populace that is a bit...mmmm...Nervous around guns or something...

I also agree it is a fine firearm though...It really feels good in the hand, and shoots nice as well...I can't find a thing wrong with it either like SVRA says...

I have a new M&P 9mm - there is no key lock on it. The model I have has a mag interlock - no mag - no bang - it is available without that feature. I saw something on S&W's website about Cincinnatti PD equipping their force with M&P 9mms - one of their deciding factors was the mag interlock- they wanted one.
