Additional definitions of acronyms:

FTF can be "face to face" as in a seller who wants to have a FTF sale.
FTF seems like it's also used for "failure to fire".
FTE - failure to eject.
YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary. Someone on the forum will express an
opinion. But YMMV allows that others may have different opinions or experience.
BG - Bad guy.
GG - Good guy.
OP - Original Poster of a thread.
LEO - Law Enforcement Officer (covers all types of cops).
Plastic - Your CHL when Austin has approved you and mailed it to you.
WTB -Want to buy.
WTS - Want to sell.
WTT - Want to trade.
FMJ - Full Metal Jacket. Used for range practice.
JHP - Jacketed Hollow Point. Used for your carry ammo. Less chance of over penetration.
SD - Can be either "Self Defense" as in ammo, or Sheriff's Dept.
CRFFL, aka Cruffler or close to that - Curio and Relic Federal Firerams License

Anyone else got anymore?

allinhtown wrote:Hey everyone.. I'm completely new here. I'm planning on getting my CHL in the near future (whenever I can find the time to take the class)

But I think I need more advice on a good weapon to purchase. I'm planning on using it for home defense, and maybe carry it around sometimes. I have shot a few different pistols, namely a Glock .40 and a SIG P250. I really liked the P250, it is extremely accurate.

Is there a better SIG out there? I did some quick research on the P250, and it said all this stuff about interchangable parts and it seemed a little complicated.

Well, nice to meet everyone. Hope to see you around the ranges!

Check out the sig229, I have one in .40 cal and I love it, simple, easy to use, have even put the reduced power frangible ammo thru it and it still fed every time. cant say enough good things abt it. I live in sw houston, would be willing to meet you at a range to let you try it out.

I think I'm pretty decided on the SIG P250... I had the opportunity to handle both the P229 and P239... both of which are great guns. But I think I love the P250 because of its simplistic design, and it is noticeably lighter than either of those two.

I'm planning on getting one this week, maybe next weekend! So excited :)

Good luck with your purchase, and even better luck finding ammo.

I'll be sure to let everyone know as soon as I get it!

In the meantime... what is this 51% rule everyone keeps talking about? (I'm still pre-chl, so please refrain from using expletives only if absolutely necessary in your replies :P)

You'll learn all about it in your class :)

Then come back here, tell us what you learned, and we will either confirm it, or correct it.
It seems that more then a few instructors out there aren't exactly 100% on some of it, but they try their best :hurry:

If you REALLY Want to get a jump on it all, read this:

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ftp/forms/LS-16.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yes.. All of it. That's basically what the class is. Going through that entire book, explaining it, clarifying it (since not everyone speaks legalese, I seem to have been fortunate that I understand it most of the time)
And then some shooting to make sure you can hit the broad side of a barn :)
