I said it was not an act of terrorism. I still don't think it was, but might be convinced otherwise.

Muslim extremists killing American soldiers is not new news. It was only a matter of time before they decided to fight us over here so they wouldn't have to fight us over there. Especially with the new POTUS.
Any sensable president would have finished Afganistan completely and let Saddam marinate in his own juces awhile longer. He would probably have gone into self destruct mode anyway if we had let him alone a little bit longer. And a big plus to that was that he kept some of the middle East radicals occupied hating someone besides us.

Somebody else need this soap box?
Guess what. The "Middle East radicals" already hate us, George W. Bush or no, invasion of Iraq or no. As a matter of fact, they already hate anyone who doesn't think exactly like they do. Even fellow Muslims. Now suppose we get yet another lesson in how appeasement fails every time.

Appeasement is reaching out to the radical Muslims. When I see BO doing that, I might agree with you. Right now he is involved in Diplomacy with Middle East nations that are predominantly Muslim.

What irks me however, is how cozy every single administration since FDR has been with the House of Saud. Democrat or Republican, they have all turned a blind-eye to what is actually going on there.

:iagree: :iagree: Right ON!!

I also agree with Byron Dickens in that appeasement doesn't work. Never has, never will. However there is always a middle ground where reasonable men can agree; it's just sometimes hard to find.

Extremests of any ilk are by definition unreasonable and for that reason seldom capable of managing a large corporation or country for any length of time. History is full of examples from Adolph Hitler to Mulla Omar.

However it seems now that the reasonable men who believe it is important to realize that the other fellow may have a valid point of view different from his own are being marginalized by the loud mouths.

All of our presidents up to GW realized the importance of trying to reach a middle ground and were very successful at it. Even FDR realized that you don't go to war on a moments notice; it takes years of preparation if you plan to win.

In my humble opinion we should simply contain the extremists and let them self distruct which they will given enough time. We are seeing that in North Korea now. They are about to collapse into a brew of their own making any day now. The same fate would have befallen Saddam if we had left him alone for another year or so.
